Hi guys! Well, never thought I will be here, but here I am.

So I played a few games last week... though not exactly proper games, more of 1v1 matches to showcase for my university's eSports club.

I don't know whether Lux was an easy hero, or that I was just good at picking her up, but... yeah, I killed a bit as Lux.

Ashe was hard on 1v1, and she relies on close-range with some of her abilities, it seems.

I can't play Nautilus.

No, she's easy. Stupid damage and an ult with basically no cooldown.

Heh, that explains a lot. I needed a beginner hero and that worked for my novice self.

What would you say is the hardest hero to master?

I think Zed and Riven are probably the hardest. To this day it still feels “wrong” whenever I play Zed (he’s like that rogue HP wand that won’t obey its wielder).

Lux is a good champion to learn (for rewards to efforts ratio); however, she’s hugely dependent on landing her Q bind to combo. Some games the ennemy will just walk into all your damage and you will destroy, other games they just dodge your Qs.

A good Lux is a huge asset in team fights for sure.

If you like Lux I also recommend Ziggs as a back up pick.

Yeah, I can see the flaws and shortcomings with Lux. It's easy, but only rewarding when you managed to align your shots properly or bind your enemy to the ground.

there's a ton of potential in the champion though (a surprisingly high skill cap despite the seemingly straightforward kit)

eventually you can mind-game enemies and hit people in fog of war with the Qs max range by manipulating vision etc (making some very nasty picks); its really nice that her Q can snare two targets with one hit

also, the good thing with Lux is that she fits into and complements any team composition (unlike say assassins) pretty well

Lux is a pretty good all rounder. And good for practicing hitting skill shots, given that's literally her entire kit.

Hardest champs are probably the most mechanically heavy, or the ones that have niche uses.

In other news, I managed to hit 5k gold in an ARAM match before being killed, so that was cool. Managed to get 2.5 full items off it.

After a month of North American server play (at 200 ping) I came back to the Japan server and it is just BRUTAL

The players are so ruthless and calculated

I’ve lost several games in a row now due to a single late game rotation/mechanical misplay error

Brutal...

Shen is also hard in my opinion.

He's so just easily useless and his taunt dash has a really really weird hit-box. Not to mention its really unpredictable when you're teleporting to an ally how they will move even with Pings (and then aiming the Taunt coming out is whack).

Too macro-intensive and team dependant, also very punishing when behind

Yasuo... is it me, or are Asian characters usually the hardest? :P Coming from Overwatch, Genji and Hanzo are the ones that I have the most problems playing as.

Anyway, back to the game... how about Darius and Draven? Are they more for damage-dealing, or should I say a Tank, like they can take more hits, but they are not very good damage-dealers?

As you can tell, I am a very, very beginner right here and have only played 1v1 for my school event. Might try a casual 5v5 soon, who knows. :D

Like the one I got yesterday. Gets his ass kicked, then ragequits.

Though that game was fun. Me and Kai'Sa decided to drag it out as long as possible. Took them almost an hour to close out what was basically a 3 v 5. I say 3 instead of 4 cause Shaco was no help, and just baby-rage lane pushed when we didn't surrender.

I really really wanted to play him as my go to Top laner but it was just too frustrating.

I'm mostly playing Maokai for top lane now. He has tons of utility, can peel and engage with ease (but still kind of team dependant in that he usually cannot win lane and someone needs to help him take top tower).

Its just kind of frustrating how he doesn't feel as tanky as he used to, maybe they nerfed tank items? I feel like even with 2 defensive items I get melted pretty fast. Still the frontline but it just feels like you die a lot faster now...

Runes/item change or?

I usually build him damage, but tank works too. It's Darius' passive that does the work. If you're a tanky motherfucker, then you basically take no damage while your bleed stacks.

As for Draven, you gotta ask someone else. I don't ADC.

I have heard that Draven is difficult because he has a strange axe-catching mini-game (I have never played him); he's not a great beginner ADC.

I think the absolute best beginner ADC is Miss Fortune. Her Ultimate is extremely overpowered in lower level games; if you time it correctly it can blow away 2-3 players away, one button.

...

Darius is... a really weird champion (for me when I play).

There's a general consensus that he's "easy" and "brain dead" and that he supposedly stomps most melee vs melee games (its the majority opinion I think)

However, I really really really cannot play that champion for whatever reason; I find him really difficult to play personally. I always get confused about how many "stacks" I have in the team fights, somehow miss my Qs under stress, and have trouble deciding who to target and what order to target... that's if I'm not just CC-ed and instantly blown up while I'm working on that on the spot

my brother watched me play one Darius game and told me I try to grab the ennemy too early or that I Ult at 3 stacks instead of 4 or 5???? eh...

But some people do really well on Darius.

Nasus, Garen, Tryndamere are who I would recommend for learning Top. Maokai is good too but he is "boring" and pretty team oriented (very hard to get any solo kills).

Dravens big damage comes from throwing his aces, but to keep the cost low you need to catch them on return, so you need really good micro.

For the top lane, I actually quite like Poppy. She can still deal out some pretty good damage, and her W is pretty strong these days with all the dash mobility. Does require some pretty good positioning for her E and passive.

But fair warning here, Val. Once you get out there in 5 v 5 land, you will meet the utter dregs of online gaming society. Cause this games community is toxic as all get out.

I'm guessing that it gets toxic even for casual plays (instead of going competitive), if there's such a thing?
