Watched What We Do in the Shadows after loving Taika Waititi's latest film, Jojo Rabbit. I laughed from beginning to end. He's easily my favorite director at the moment.

CSA: Confederate States of America, an alternate history mockumentary presented as a British documentary on the history of the now global empire-spanning CSA. Very funny and, at the same time, horrifying. What really sells it for me is the in-universe ads for products in the CSA with that cheapo early 2000s spin on them. Great movie, glad I was finally able to watch it.

You'd think from my nation's lore that obviously I've seen The Matrix, but nope. Until now I haven't actually sat down and watched it all the way through.

I was missing out. It's a good movie, and I like the central themes even if they are a bit heavy-handed at times.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I felt like I was watching The Avengers rather than Star Wars. I didn't like it at all.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The pacing and editing of this movie is infamously poor... But what redeems it is a really cool story and a great ending. Worth watching if you don't mind the ridiculously long Enterprise launch sequence.

1917 - I thought it was very boring and didn't liked how they killed the secondary character like halfway early to the story.
The Avant-Gardist State of Patagonia ~~~ Gauchos and Mapuches, orgies and parties, avant-garde art, futurism, syndicalism, the New Man, general strikes, the glorification of violence, spiritual nationalism, esoteric occultism, CIA spooks, Spartanian homosexuality, public sodomy, and more
    Triomphe du Surréalisme (1968)
  • There are many things said about Patagonia but few actually know what goes on behind the Andes mountains. Tales of human depravation and man's inner darkest self run wild. A place where avant-garde culture flourish and the artist don't fear the censor. Where all live bold and free under the gaze of the Patron. Yet all dreams will come to an end soon...
  • Not expecting an essay. Just a couple of sentences that shows that you know my work well enough

1917, and it was a really good movie.
Currently retired. This nation (my first on this website) will be put to rest after 4 years on April 22.

The Witchfinder General. It's an admixture of a spaghetti western in the countryside of the English Civil Wars and a humourless, sadistic horror film.

Re-watched 'Quarantine' last night. Spoiler alert:
Everybody dies.
Freedom? Freedom is an illusion. You all, every one of you, serve and obey your masters every single day. Children obey their parents to avoid being punished. Adults obey their employers to avoid being fired. Good citizens obey the law to avoid imprisonment. You ALL obey ME to avoid a very painful death. Freedom, my friends, is life’s great lie. Once you accept that, in your hearts, you will know peace.”

Local Hero. A lovely, quirky little 1983 film by Bill Forsyth. It's about Mac (Peter Riegert), an executive from an American oil company who's trying to purchase a small village on the Scottish coast so the company can build an oil refinery on the land. Unbeknownst to Mac, the villagers are all to eager to sell, but are feigning indifference to get more money out of him. Mac, for his part, quickly falls in love with the place he's supposed to be buying. It's quite hard to pin down quite what makes Local Hero work so well; it is funny, but in a wry smile inducing way, rather than laugh out loud. I think the heart of it is how well the village of Furness and the people in it, local and outsider, are realised. I particularly liked Peter Capaldi as Danny, Mac's hapless assistant from the Scottish branch of the company.

The Magic Christian with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. Somehow never seen it before, perhaps it is not shown very often. Very much of its time, self indulgent and incoherent, maybe it was a troubled production. Anyway I didn't enjoy it.
