Ready Player One

Alright movie. Never read the book so I wouldn't know how much was actually kept in the film.

"Militannia the Eternal"

Nations have risen and fallen like waves in the sea
Such a fate will never befall our mighty country
For the strength of our leader,
the strength of our people,
the strength of our military will NEVER falter
and will NEVER become like the calm sea!

Our Rise
Our Ascension
Our Conquest
Never questioned
For we are immortals!

To Militannia
the Eternal!

Really? Something's bugged me about the movie and so here's just a small aspect. It's not that I don't think it was a perfectly enjoyable and constructed movie, and there were certainly plenty of scenes where not only did I think 'oh.. that' but more often 'oh that.. where's that from again?'

But..

..take the very first scene, not only is it completely different from the book in every way, as a task, in characters meeting.. just completely different but this is an homage to gaming to a degree. So here's the thing..

There's no way that over 5 years no one thought, even accidentally, to not go backwards. In any game, especially racing, I've at some point gone backwards if just for the hell of it. It's not that someone has to think of it as a strategy but just that someone would do it. For me this irks me in the movie. No one went backwards, frankly if you see a wall behind you in a race you'll go backwards just in case there's an Easter egg and I'm sure I remember a game like that anyway.

So not only did they change very aspect of the book but did so in a way that, to me, made no sense and also made me question the care for the idea of gaming anyway.

There's books I've read first and then watched the movie, there's movies I've watched first and then really enjoyed the book. I think this fell into the latter in terms of the way around I thought better, I wish I'd watched the movie first and then read the book.

For example I'm happy I read LoTR first and then the movies.. the movies kind of fleshed out the imagery of the book.. whereas I watched Trainspotting first and then read the book, I got the characters in the film and then fleshed out their backgrounds in the books.

Anyway..

Well, that's one of my gripes with the movie. I know people on YouTube who drive backwards in Mariokart.

I guess that's one thing CinemaSins will sin.

I last saw Black Panther. It was awesome.
You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

Ramen Teh

Pretty decent local film made by a well known (enough) name in the field.

I'd recommend it if you're not familiar with the food that exists in Singapore; it's at least good as an introduction to it that complements the movie's protagonist.

Not really watching but is on TV right now? Some movie about a wannabe girl boxer being trained by an old man.

Just saw Ready Player One. I had read the book a few months before the movie was announced, so I've been pumped for this. Hardly ate the whole time! I love the tons of pop-culture references.

On my top 10 movies list now.

Not a movie, but a play that was made into a movie along the line. I went to see one of my good friends in her high school's rendition of "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
The last legit movie I've seen was probably "Saving Private Ryan," though I can't exactly remember. I don't watch a lot of movies.
