A Most Violent Year - rather good New York set crime drama, though I kept expecting some wider context of why 1981 was so violent. Might be a bit too slow a film for some people.

Baskin - very effective Turkish gore horror film. Somewhere between Hellraiser, Silent Hill, and R Point. Not my favourite genre by a long stretch but the film worked.

Jackpot - dark Norwegian comedy thriller. Criminals win the football pools and begin killing each other. Second time I've watched it, pretty good.

I watched Bottle Rocket & I'm currently watching Bronson. I'm probably going to watch Natural Born Killers next.
... I have so many movies in my queue it's not even funny.

300 is supposed to be an idealized story about the Battle of Thermopylae which is narrated by its survivor and is deliberately over-the-top, surreal and incoherent. The Persians in the movie are depicted as monsters and deformed creatures because that is how the unreliable narrator describes them as, similar to how the CNN describes Donald Trump as an evil abominable monster.

As a movie I'd give it 2/5 but as a drinking game it's definitely 5/5. :p

That's pretty much what I was trying to say. "It's not good" = "I'm not drunk enough".

Unlike Abraham Lincoln the Vampire Hunter which is a shitty movie regardless of how drunk you are.

Hobo with a Shotgun, Rambos, Cobra, Robocop, that sort of things. Oh, and my all time favorite movie is Scarface.

Mumbai Meri Jaan , compelling film looking at the aftermath of the 2006 Mumbai bombings.

Wrong Turn at Tahoe, gangster thriller that I think deserved better than its straight to dvd fate.

The Black Arrow, great fun 1948 medieval swashbuckler. Great fun, beautifully shot.

I actually went to "The Pictures" today (Celia Johnson is my spirit Animal) - I saw "La La Land" which I really rather enjoyed, it plays so prettily with the conventions of musical theatre (and I am a huge Queen) and actually came out as a rather good film so I was thoroughly pleased.

Sequel Please
Read "A Man For All Seasons". That explains most of what I believe in. Except the Catholic bits.

Outside of here I do lead a rather unusual and colourful life. As a Spinster.

I just want a nice man with a good accent and the manners of a Royal.

British, a really cliché G in LGBTQ gentleman a lot of the time.

The Charge of the Light Brigade, for me the late sixties and early seventies was a bit of a golden age for historical epics. I saw this at the cinema when I was seven, and watching it again I realise how much it influenced me. The perfect subject for the anti-establishment, anti-war, anti-jingoistic late sixties and with a great cast of British actors. Trevor Howard plays Lord Cardigan as one of the most appalling human beings ever to appear in film. John Gielgud plays Lord Raglan in a wonderfully batty turn, Gielgud always seemed familiar with Alzheimer's as a condition long before it was commonly known. Harry Andrews as good as ever. Bit of a gem really.

Sunset Boulevard (1950). It had been years since I'd last seen it, and the film was slightly campier than I remembered, but then, that really was the point. It definitely holds up as a classic in its own right though.

Nerve (2016)

This is an unusual and fun movie about 2 young people who play a bizzare game in which they have to do various tasks that are often extremely dangerous and film them with their phones in order to win money, while a huge crowd watches them over the Internet. The movie was filmed in New York City and it looks great and even stunning at times. There are some plot holes, most notably the part when some hackers explain how the game's software can be modified by anybody on the Internet (now why would the game's creators want that?), but they don't ruin the movie. There is this one scene in which the main character and her friend have to complete an outrageous task that involves ladders, and I found that scene to be extremely thrilling.

8/10
