Dunno if anyone else still plays the mobile game or if it's just me, but the first filled reward bar of the EQG dancing minigame each week grants a pony. I got Cadence last week, and several of the balloon pop ponies in weeks before that. I just stick to the three star songs on the 3500 gold booster (combined with recommended dancer and two neighbors) and manage just fine each week. Sometimes I fill a second bar, but that's only ever granted water towers and rodeo pens.

I'll admit that I have a waning interest in MLP. Still a good show, but I give it a lower priority now. I doubt the new season will excite me any. I think the show has gotten to the point where it can end on a high note. I heard rumor that G4 is supposed to only last until 2019 at latest. I don't see many other potential plots to be explored. I'm satisfied enough by what we have. Am already ready for a sequel where the torch is passed onto the CMC or whoever else as the main characters instead.

I'd enjoy a new show, but I think I wouldn't be as interested in it if it used the same charcaters. I like the concept of Equestria, of Celestia and Luna, of magic and unicorns and pegasi and earth ponies, I love its history.
But a new show should leave that all behind, except maybe the fundamentals like monarchy and magic. New characters. New rulers. New villains, plot lines, new elements of harmony that represent other subjects. A new show.
It'd be hit or miss, but what if it hit?

I'm just in the middle of watching Rainbow Rocks and I'm really liking it!
EDIT:Just saw it all the way through. It was great.

The songs are good, the story is much better, and even though I haven't seen that much of season 4 I still understand it quite well.

Well, that's a first: The season opens with two episodes, but not as a two-parter.
I'm not quite sure what logic Twilight was following when she believed that she had to send Starlight away. It wasn't quite like Celestia's own logic with Twilight, since her premise was that Starlight was "finished" rather than having to go on to the next level. Maybe the episode was supposed to suggest that that's what Twilight was thinking all along (as she knows full well that learning is never over; friendship or magic or anything else.

I didn't find the second act's cliffhanger terribly convincing. It was painfully obvious that Celestia wasn't laughing at Twilight, and nothing before suggested that she would act in such a way. Anyone who knows Celestia and Twilight's relationship wouldn't have been fooled. It is certainly understandable why Twilight would think that she was given her worries, and maybe too it is as much a failure to really get the audience connected to Twilight's emotions as anything.

But I liked the return back to the neurotic Twilight that seemed to be lost over the past couple of seasons. More than that, we actually got to see Celestia in a little more personal light, which I'm sure pleased a few fans.

I can't help but wonder if Twilight's "send Starlight to the changelings" hypothetical was in part meant to show that ponies still don't have a high opinion of changelings. The compromise lecture seemed a little patronizing and artificial. While yes, changelings still have a ways to go in becoming properly civilized sharers of friendship, you'd think that Twilight would have imagined a more complicated situation that changelings could relate to.

Also, when did Starlight have the ability to nullify Twilight's decision? Had Twilight indeed not decided where to send her when she made the announcement? Discord was right after all.

Well, the premise was quite a bit cliche, with a literal reading of a common phrase. But I enjoyed it. I found it a nice touch that Trixie said to the StarlightAngry!jeweler/Bulk/Granny Smith that she "barely knows them," as it certainly she might have felt the same way in the moment had Starlight been the one ranting. That the anger was transferred also seems to be an interesting twist on psychological projection. (But I'm sure all of that's been done before.) Curiously enough, Starlight's motivation of "wanting to use magic so she doesn't have to use magic" seems to both be an indication that she hasn't really moved on from "Every Little Thing She Does" and also an extreme reaction to the lesson. Do remember, Starlight, that friendship is a form of magic.

It's long been speculated that magic is connected with a unicorn's emotions, and this episode outright confirms it. And we finally got to see some more specific steps for performing magic (foreshadowed in the last episode, no less).

Now that Trixie has actually learned Magic 101, is she going to become as powerful as Starlight and Twilight soon? Time will tell.

I kind of worry that the Mane 6's footnote role here will become more and more prominent as the season goes on. The show seems to be indicating that Starlight and Trixie are going to be be main friendship lesson learners from now on, and as I mentioned in my last review, everypony knows that such learning doesn't end. Twilight and the gang are still the symbols of good friendship. The puzzle room subplot was barely a struggle, unlike Trixie's and Starlight's problem, and the episode treated the lessons they learned as a bit of a joke without really connecting it to the main plot. (To be fair, learning not to sing when the plot demands action is a very important lesson.) Perhaps it was just anomalous and just an example of self-parody, but I just hope it doesn't become a habit. The show has already started to rely on meta-humor more and more, and at some point it does get a bit annoying.

Also, Pinkie, what do you mean you're not good at solving puzzles? Lateral thinking is a good asset for them sometimes.

So, the episodes weren't perfect or even stellar, but they didn't make too many serious mistakes and I overall enjoyed them.

I enjoyed both episode. It was nice to see Princess Celestia get some development and honestly I love Starlight Glimmer's and Trixie's friendship. It just feels more authentic and "real" than the Mane 6's friendship. It was actually a very nice season opener that didn't have any baddies for the ponies to defeat.

It's funny that now Celestia has all but told Twilight that her Ponyville journey was just a setup.

Do you think the show can make the Mane 6 friendships more authentic? I'd already consider the Pinkie-Dash and Dash-Fluttershy relations to be the most authentic within.

I wouldn't exactly call it a setup. I think Celestia genuinely wanted Twilight to make friends because of her past experiences with other ponies such as Starswirl, Luna and Sunset Shimmer. As for the mane 6 being more authentic, honestly I think they were at their most authentic in Season 1 and 2, where the differences between the six ponies were more obvious. However over the years, they kind of push those differences aside and there's no conflict anymore, so the mane six becomes boring.
