I hope they use the longer run time to create a fully realised story. The episodes have struggled with their internal stories the past season.

Thoughts on the movie designs.

Not-Tirek: Obvious villain is obvious.
Sea pony: Neat. Will be interested to see if and how their aquatic home is depicted. Also wondering about the obscured hindquarters. Will they go four finny legs, like a kelpie, finned tail, like a hippocampus (gawd I hope so), or classic seapony seahorse curly tail (boooo).
Fur Sentry: Dreamworks Smirk = "lovable rogue" personality, calling it right now. Probably a pirate or something from the coat, hinting more toward seaing some of the mer-horse homeland.
My OC Do Not Steal: Darker colors/armor point toward villain, but smile/teal eyes might hint toward being the "inside man" that helps take down bigbad? Dunno' about that broken horn, but that mane reminds me of a betta fin. Maybe she used up all of her magic to pull some "Little Mermaid" shenanigans? Or might be a member of Captain Fluffy's pirate crew. Actually, yeah, I'm betting on that. Brokehorn the Pirate.

Why is it so goddamn easy to steal their magic?

I don't know, but I don't like it. I don't like how the current batch of writers have been slowly undermining much of the original atmosphere the show has previously established regarding the function of the world. Yaks should not be a serious threat to Equestria, alicorn babies shouldn't be pulled out of asses, Celestia and Luna shouldn't be so easily thwarted and kidnapped, monster races shouldn't be reformed through songs and speeches. It really feels like they don't care much about being true to any kind of lore, they just see themselves as kids show writers earning a paycheck.

Also, I don't like pirates. I don't really know why, I just never have. I liked Pirates of the Caribbean, but that wasn't really a straight-up pirate series so much as it was dark high fantasy starring pirates. Pirates just kind of strike me as that thing you pull out to fill time, much like the old, "everybody forgot my birthday but it was really a surprise party" plot.

I kind of always wished the identity and fate of AJ's parents would always remain unsaid, if only to keep fans forever speculating.
