I can't find any confirmation on that, but as far as I can tell they only meant the toy line generation would last ten years. Whether the TV show is any different is anyone's guess.

I can see it lasting up tothe 2017 movie. I hope this happens in the movie. Also, I hope there is an epic rock remix of the theme song (similar to Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Transformers). It'll probably be like this.
Maybe they'll be some sort of sequel series about the CMC (plus maybe some new characters) as adults/teenagers/whatever age the mane 6 are.
Read a book about various fads the other day. It included g1 mlp (this was before g4), pokemon, but also lego, which I found odd. Lego doesn't really seem to be a fad toy to me, but I can understand why they put g1 mlp. G2 was much less popular than g1, and g3....Well, that's a can of worms I don't wanna open.
