It's a good enough starting point, but I find the mane/tail options very limiting. Mashing the randomizer puts out some interesting results occasionally, but most of them look like a burning dumpster tumbling down a rocky mountainside towards a pit full of gasoline-soaked tires, imo.
If drawing is definitely out I'd suggest modifying a base in MSPaint (or other preferred software). Personally, I like either Pain.Net or MediBang Paint. Both are free, but Medibang also has an app for smartphones that you can transfer images back and forth to your computer via the cloud with and work on anywhere. As much as I bother to work at all...

OR you could always round up a bazillion reference images and be all "eyes like this, but this color, and mane like this and tail like that, but more blue..."
And then creep around various art sites (or art subforums on multi-interest sites) to find an artist whose style you like who has commissions open in your price range. Some folks also take requests/do freebies, but YMMV and being the twentieth person today to ask a commission-only artist for freebs can end badly. Attempt at your own risk.

You might also pick up a figurine and repaint it. Blind bags are cheapest and have most body-type variety, plus the manes/tails are solid and easier to recolor than pulling and replacing doll hair, but it can be hard to get exactly the shape you want without buying a whole bunch or open ones.

The fic or the song?

If the song: it rips off the bass and beat of Deepsky - Real Dream.

If the fic: The fic is bad for a lot of reasons. Mainly beacuse crowbarring in grimdark in a noblebright universe makes no sense, Dash is OOC, the lack of any police on a Federal level who must have noticed the pile of missing ponies reports with a common thread and, Celestia in the sequel was made to be evil for no good reason at all.

If you want a good version of the same idea, read Borrasca.
It's like Rainbow factory but:

-Set in it's own universe
-The federal police actually give a shit
- It has humans who are known to be assholes unlike ponies who wouldn't ever do the shit in RF
- It's well paced not just the stupid pacing of MLP Grimdark fics/Creeepy Pastas around that time (I.E: A very slow boring buld up and then GORE GORE GORE DEATH -END- like walking up to an elevator very slowly only for it to break and fall to your death. )
- People have logical reasons to do things
- It's good and not a pile of shit like RF/PD

Replace Atlas Shrugged with Rainbow Factory and/or Pegasus Device and you have my review of both fics.

This was one for bronies. I wasn’t expecting Discord to show up, nor Derpy to play a somewhat critical role, nor expected Lyra and Bon Bon to actually be shown in love. The lesson was delivered straightforwardly without a smudge, and the pie was good enough. For me though, the love wasn’t in the air.

It seems that the writers are making pony culture more parallel our own, if Discord’s remark about the commercialization of Hearts and Hooves Day is true. I might wish that pony culture be a little more removed from our materialism, but then again it makes odd enough sense given that the show really is little more than a very well-done toy commercial (and I emphasize “very” because it often does transcend its advertising mission). Hopefully Hearth’s Warming Eve will be spared from the cynicism, since, despite the more recent emphasis on gift-giving, still has roots that make more than just a Christmas veneer.

This might be the first time since “Filly Forever” that an episode has had a discernible sub-plot, here the search for Sweetie Belle’s secret admirer. Here the lessons on miscommunication and assumptions are made more concrete, but it further highlights from whence misunderstandings stem—that is, one’s own selfish interests. (The CMC as a symbol of selfish interests, interestingly enough, was also a part of “Surf and/or Turf,” so I would be surprised if their use shows up similarly in future episodes.) As an aside, it’s almost a surprise that the Crusaders didn’t connect the dots in Sweetie Belle’s colloquy with Big Mac, but of course, they were focused too much on their own interests to do so.

I’m still puzzled as to what Discord’s moral role really was in all of this. The episode doesn’t seriously question the existence of true love, as only Discord ever has doubts, and Big Mac’s leaning, taught by Discord, seemed to be a symbol in search of significance. Even Discord’s remark of “plenty of ponies in the pasture” implies that he admits that love is a real thing by acknowledging it as a genuine pony need (though interchangeable). Yet the resolution of the CMC’s subplot, where the CMC see themselves as the “special someponies” for Hearts and Hooves Day, might suggest that Discord was right all along: love is not really a sentiment different than friendship. If that’s the case, I too am up for a game of O&O, though with the caveat that love runs deep enough to become different in kind.

Certainly a lot better than the disaster of last week, but not enough for me too love. Maybe it was too much fan pander saturation, maybe it was the fundamental predictableness of the plot. But, as with many things pony, it is like Heinz ketchup, or here Sugar Belle and Big Mac’s pies—an ordinary thing done extraordinarily well.

The only one that comes to mind is the one where the Changelings all became good. But that episode wasn't really about him.
