When did he say this line? Also I'm sure that's just Steven's sweet and polite nature asserting itself. He wouldn't just let Peridot escape. Although now that I think about it you might be right in that he wouldn't tell the other gems where she was right away.

Dude. He would definitely let Peridot go, unless she did something so horrific that even Steven wouldn't forgive her, and it hasn't been confirmed that Peridot was the one who force fused the gems.

But she's likely the one that did and she tried to kill the Crystal Gems.

Steven wouldn't just let her go. Yeah, he was nice to her. But he actively tried catching her with the Gems. So I doubt he'd just send a dangerous threat on her way.

There'd obviously be some kind of interrogation, probably involving a beatdown from Garnet (some Sapphire/Ruby Goodcop/Badcop action would be pretty awesome too, though). I mean, she's directly involved with the Cluster, which was so horrifying to Garnet as to almost result in her unfusing; the CGs will probably want to know more about it.

And then, if the title is anything to go by, Steven ends up releasing her because he's Steven.

Season 1 Steven maybe. He's become a lot more competent and responsible since the show's beginning.
