On a side note, Peridot is best gem.

SU is the perfect franchise for spin-offs. It has a lot of potential that isn't really being met with the main series.
Basically it needs an equivalent to KOTOR.

This show had/has a lot of potential but it really needs to work on its pacing issues. I know part of this is due to CN's scheduling but after re-watching the recent episodes one after another I can definitely say that it's more then that...

You could literally make a better show in the same setting by just putting some gems on a space ship and having a show about their adventures through gem space

I actually though there would be more space adventures in SU, cause based on clips I watched before wactually getting into the show I assumed they were actually going all over the galaxy with the warp pads, not just wacky earth locations

On two seperate occasions I was excited for a potential turn to space shenanigans, one where they got the Ruby's ship to flew it to the Zoo, and I was like yay, they have a working space ship now, they could potentially go to all sorts of Gem space stations and off planet locations and stop hanging around the barn all day like lazy hippies.

Then again when they had Lars be a space captain, which is pretty much Lars being an unsalvageable character so they killed him off and replaced him with a totally different character which honestly I feel conflicted about, but hey space adventures, I liked how that Emerald gem looked and the idea of them having run ins with Gems in space, maybe actually having a look at what gem space is like outside of earth and homeworld ... and to that end, the once glimpse at a non-earth finished colony was fucking amazing but way way way way too little to satisfy me

SU I think suffers from critical plot shortage and a weird deficiency of character development because it chooses to develop background charahcters irrelevant to the plot instead of like...you know, Lapis or Jasper or Peridot or hell even the actual crystal gems. I think Jasper was a huge waste of potential and I'll honestly be pretty dissapointed if they never do anything with her especially now with the whole pink diamond thing, and I especially think Lapis was really poorly handled. They made a charahcter with a lot of trauma to deal with that really defines her characterization and set themselves up to do like an arc about Lapis learning to cope with her past but they never actually gave her the time to do that on screen and so she ends up just running away and being a little bitch most of the time and her character honestly sucks because she has zero growth.

I think Steven is the only person that gets focus, which is a shame because the cast has a lot of interesting ideas to work with, and the actual setting and villains are cool as a motherfucker. This kind of thing leads to wild swings in quality from primo shit in episodes like the Zoo where there is Diamond drama and history lessons and cool gem settings to just trash tier garbagio where an overworked minimum wage worker at the donuts store starts a band with the cool kids. Its like show is 90% filler episodes, but filler episodes are supposed to space out shit happening, and shit happening is already spaced out by absurdly long and uneven hiatuses, so you end up coming back from a long as break to then take a break from your break with meaningless filler about side charahcters that doesn't progress the plot in any way

Its a lot of wasted potential. Shitloads of good ideas that are set up and then abandoned immediately and never get their proper development.

Would be prime material for a reboot by a new team, in my opinion. Too much untapped potential to just be left alone.

Jasper’s entire character development got rushed through five episodes, and never really was talked about by the Gems. It’s like, “Oh. Steven saw a Gem literally succumb to a nigh-irreversible disease. Let’s not talk about it with him and let him deal with the drama alone.” As usual. I would like to see Jasper come back, maybe have Steven heal her.

Jasper thought Steven was Pink's murderer, and now Steven is Pink. It might be potentially really cool to explore Steven realizing the massive consequences his mom's bid for personal freedom had on her followers like Jasper, and to have Jasper realize she attacked her precious diamond thinking she was avenging her

But its SU so they probably won't flesh out the amazing setup they've handed themselves

See that's the thing. I don't if they consciously make these great set up for themselves and then don't follow up on it for external reasons of they just stumble on these things by accident.

I think they do it on purpose. Like the storyboard artists and world-builders are doing a good job setting stuff up for the actual writers and then the actual writers take the piss and mess around with pointless side threads all the time or do overly blunt and rushed resolutions, trying to squeeze a season's worth of plot developments into 20 minutes because they accidentally spent 15 episodes doing absolutely nothing.

I wonder why there still making less powerful gems by drilling deeper into homeworld when thats what colonies are for? Or did the Rebellion eat up too much of their first era soldiers and builders that they needed to make less powerful versions just to get back to pre-rebellion strength?

Having a clone of Star Trek isn't very original, and I happen to like the gems adjusting to Earth life and interacting with humans. Now, if only the worldbuilding and characters could match the intrigue...

So ANY show that goes into or is set in space is a Star Trek clone? I don't recall a race of planet mining rock people in any ST show I ever saw.

I mean, there are the Tholians, but I wouldn't say those are really comparable to the Gems.

Peridot (who is still best gem) was made on Homeworld after the rebellion. It's entirely plausible that it still goes on. As for the Earth kindergarten, I still presume that its purpose was simple colonization.

I mean the Homeworld authority only objective in my opinion was to colonise the whole universe and colonise as much planets as they can to produce as much gems as they can
