What kind...?

I use heavy bottom strings because my super thick guitar pick rips through standard gauge when I tremolo pick black metal. But my bottom strings are standard so I can still play ska.

D'Addario EXL148s.

That, from highest to lowest, 12 - 16 - 20 - 34 - 46 - 60

I'm using 3 D'Addario 9 gauges and 3 Ernie Ball 9's
after the D'Addarios broke I couldn't replace them fast enough so I just switched to the EBs

I really have no preference as far as strings, it's just that these strings said that they were optimized for C standard, so I pretty much just went with them.

C really isn't that low. Capitalist Casualties used drop C.

EDIT: They used a lot of different tunings....

Thrash isn't that difficult, providing you aren't adding solos into it.

At least, DRI and some Slayer songs are easy. That's all I know. Napalm Death's Suffer the Children also has a really thrashy riff in it.

I know I said this before but Leper is absolutely amazing. They blend ska, crust, grindcore and black metal in a way that seems so smooth.

Darkthrone
A Blaze in The Northern Sky 10/10
Under a Funeral Moon 9.6/10
Transylvanian Hunger 9.6/10
Panzerfaust 9.7/10

After listening to Blaze it all kinda went down hill. Dark Throne is kinda repetitive

You know what grindcore and thrash metal have in common? Firm roots in crust punk. Similarities between the genres are therefore not too strange, even though both genres are very much their own thing.

At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

I have a buddy that's tuned down to drop G# before. I then tuned down to drop D and played him something that sounded 50x heavier than the riffs he had in G#. That was one of the few times I actually used the drop D and for the sole reason of not wanted to tune the entire guitar. D standard is a great tuning. I use standard for the most part though.

I've used drop G# before for messing around with drone metal. It got to the point where my amp didn't sound that loud, but my entire room was vibrating.

I have no idea why anyone would use drop G# for playing anything besides drone.

Dropdead - Unjustified Murder

Just to poke fun at Hal. This is the ultimate "SJW" song....talking about animal rights an all.

In the United States alone an animal is killed every six seconds in the name of scientific experimentation. A holocaust the likes of which man has never known is taking place right before our very eyes. It's up to you and I to put a stop to it. It's up to you and I to make a change. It's up to you and I to ... Liberate!

Vivisection --- It's scientific fraud
Exploitation --- gone on too long
Unjustified murder --- It's systematic slaughter
Liberation --- a means to an end

Generally speaking I don't think tuning has really all that much to do with heaviness. I mean, D standard is pretty much the lowest I go. As my example I'll use Rammstein, because tell me that guitar, as much as you may love/hate it, sounds pretty goddamn heavy. Of course bass plays a big part in that, but considering it's all in standard tuning (as opposed to everyone else using lower tunings to get heavier tones) it's a very heavy tone.

There are a lot of factors that go into heaviness. Pickups, amp, amp settings, strings....

Still, even if it isn't that heavy, Drop G# is just annoying. The strings are too floppy to actually play anything on it.

The lowest tuning I regularly play in is Drop A with seven strings, but when I use all eight strings of my guitar I use E-A-E-A-D-G-B-E for the most part, simply because it's convenient.
