Not even half as overrated as Iron Maiden :p

But seriously, why are they overrated? I rarely see Venom shirts OR fans, all I hear is that they are overrated without anything to back it up. Seems like they're just another band where overrated simply means that person doesn't like them.

Their music is pretty uninteresting, to me at least. And yes you do very rarely see Venom shirts, it's because all they're really known for is how much Slayer and other Thrash and Death metal bands were influenced by them, and not all that many people are fans of Venom themselves. People rave about how influential they were, (and don't get me wrong, they were) but in all honesty the music is nothing special, especially compared to later thrash bands who vastly improved on the raw Venom sound.

Black metal was influenced by Venom to make the same music, but much much worse. Oh and they got a neat a genre name too.

Call me weird, but I've never seen the appeal of going to concerts.

At least Iron Maiden can write songs.

Venom were influential in the early evolution of extreme metal, I give them credit for that, but they would be a mere footnote in history if they released the same music in a later decade. Compared to the bands they would inspire, like Slayer, Venom were barely competent on their instruments - and are certainly nothing special as far as songwriting and variety go. They're not "shitty" like Halfordia said (I enjoy "Buried Alive" and "Welcome To Hell"), but I just don't think their music alone warrants their legendary status.

If you've never seen a Venom Black Metal shirt at a concert, I'd be astounded :p There's always one.

Maiden can't write any better than Venom. Both are as good 'cept Dickinson sounds terrible most of the time.

Slayer is mostly shit with few good songs.

I've never been in a concert so there's that.

Well, there's a few factors.

1: I don't like crowds.
2: I live in Podunk, Kentucky. Far from any place bands I like tour.
3: I ain't got enough money to go to a concert.
4: I value my hearing.

There's something amazing about being in a moshpit, though. Unlike anything else in the world.

I'm a big fan of power metal, I'd say it's my favorite genre of metal, with thrash coming after.

Bands like Sabaton, Kamelot, Alestorm, on one hand and Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax on the other. I personally dislike Metallica.

If you love power and thrash, try Iced Earth. They combine the two perfectly.

And Manowar is great!

1) Once you realize that being in close contact with all sorts of people that are into the same kind of music isn't so bad, that goes away. I'm not a huge fan of massive crowds but it's completely different at a metal concert.

2) You can still make it happen if you're willing to go the distance. I survived waiting in Chicago traffic to see Nightwish.

3) $100 will get you a ticket and still enough left over for a drink or a shirt/other band merch. How hard is it to save $100?

4) Earplugs, they have ones that are a lot better than the standard foam ones that are meant for things like concerts. Really shouldn't be an issue. Or you could just be like me and go in there with no protection.
