I'll probably be able to really step up my efforts as soon as I get the money for a new amp and I can actually write some riffs and record them too.

Maybe by then my death growl will be good enough for at least a guitar, vocal, and MIDI drum demo. But it's more to just record the idea and sort of what it would sound like than to actually have a good demo.

You know, like in death metal.

For the final version I want to have it used more sparingly, just to add extra power. But I'm better at growling than I am at epic vocals, so it's more out of me not being able to do it justice than actually wanting an all-out death growl. But if it sounds good with a death growl then I mean, whatever sounds better. But I'm hoping to have a clean section somewhere.

1 new album and 1 new ep chose them because they had cool looking covers in the vein of Black metal.
Contamination by Valkyrja black metal band out of Sweden.
Nox Obscura Sortis by Rexor EP of a Florentine black metal band.
Time to see what they have to offer as I become one with obscurity.

Underground metal shops are the best.

Yeah I know where it's used. I was like "Hrmm, I may have a reservation about this" the death growl is something I'm really picky about.

I'm planning on having it be pretty easy to understand, pretty much used the same way clean vocals would be but just growled instead. But again, in the final version it'll be used more sparingly. My other songs are written for either no death growls, some, or all death growl. So I have variation and I think the death growl would a nice addition to the Nevsky (sorry, I usually spell it the Polish way, I assume Nevsky is the proper Russian way?).

That's my biggest issue when someone uses the growl I'm like "dafuq is he actually saying?" Since the lyrics are important to me to a degree, I want to be able to understand most of it. If I can understand it I don;t complain. As for Nevsky, that is the most common way I see it written, but I have seen alterations based upon who's saying it such as the Polish way. But as I know it it's "Nevsky" it's just transliteration though so both are no more "right" or "proper" I guess.

The band I'd be with to actually play the latest songs I've been writing is going to be a fairly accessible band. Still not commercial enough to really get beyond the metal community, but enough to be very well known as a folk and power influenced death metal band. But who's to say I won't do a brutal death metal side project one day with completely incoherent vocals? :p

Also, I still recommend you guys give Lychgate a try (I know some of you did, but I'm suggesting the full album to check out as a 2015 metal album. Listening to it now). The organs really add to the black metal.

Listening to Lychgate's album now. Pretty interesting stuff. I'm not sure how much I like the constant organ though. It's definitely a unique horror-inspired atmosphere, but the effect kinda wears off after a few songs.

As for Gorguts, that's actually their third album. It's a lot more technical and experimental than their pure OSDM debut.

Speaking of technical and experimental death metal.......The Key by Nocturnus is freaking badass. Why did I put off listening to this until now? Gonna be an instant favorite. My ears were not ready for all these solos and riffs.

And there's a song about building a time-machine to teleport to Bethlehem 0 A.D. and kill Baby Jesus :lol2:

Sludge metal is pretty good. That second link might fit more into "hard rock" but still, pretty fucking good.

I absolutely despised United Abominations.

And I was never a huge fan of A Tout Le Monde in the first place (even though it was the first Deth song I ever heard).

United Abominations was the first Megadeth album that I'd listened to. I actually found it on my Grandad's old computer, which had a lot of music (most of it not my genre). It also had Tenacious D.

Woah. Avatarium's new album is a doomy-fuzzriff-uppercut-in-a-velvet-glove knockout.

A ton of people love them, though, so that is probably more likely to backfire.

Honestly I agree. But nonetheless it was an interesting listen and worth my time, and in songs like Letter XIX, I think it works great (Still my favorite song). But yeah, I'd probably give the album a 7/10 as a whole because I can't say I dig it 100% of the time.

Yeah, I dig sludge metal. However, I don't really like those two. I guess I get too much of a feeling like I've heard that sound before, so I can't really get into it. I could share some of the ones I know with you if you like, though.

Risk is a weak album but it's not AS bad as made out to be; i.e. Megadeth's St. Anger. Not even close.

Trying to learn Murderface Skwisgaar's bass parts is annoying. I learn the tab on finger but then it's a fucking picked song. WHY SATAN!?

As said, the only reason why I bought it was that this one pop/disco album I ordered was out of press and Risk was at the same price. Now the only Megadeth album I don't own is The World Needs a Hero.

Besides, Breadline is one of my favorite Megadeth songs.

No, it's worse than Super Collider. And Super Collider is no where near as bad as St Anger.

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment then, because I like Neutral Milk Hotel. Especially on a rainy day like today.

Now that would be a cool vinyl record to have. I WANT. But first I need a record player...

To make it even better, it's used. If I'm lucky, it's the original pressing. :p
