Nothing beats record shopping with a gut full of beans or chili.

How many bands actually hopped onto each bandwagon in succession? I thought it was more like once each trend stopped being cool they simply passed into obscurity.
Whole bands didn't generally trendhop, but individual musicians did. Similar to how a lot of C-tier guitar players played in hair "metal" bands in the early 80s, switched to thrashier stuff in new bands by the late 80s and then switched to grunge/alternative sounding bands in the early 90s - not because they were passionate about playing music of a certain style, but because they were passionate about being rock stars.
Norma Jean and Pantera being examples of bands that trendhopped.
Ivan Moody and Dez Fafara being examples of musicians.

Aww, no one caught on to Obituary references![]()
As for trend-hopping, did you guys know that several members of nu-metal band Soil played death metal in the 90s as Oppressor?

Pantera didn't really trendhop, I would say they broke AWAY from a trend (being a C-tier glam band).

The writing was on the wall for hair "metal" long before Pantera ceased playing it. It just took mainstream media a few years to catch up with the actual metal community in realizing this was the case.

Of course everyone's opinions vary but I think it'd be fun to come up with a list of the "greatest" albums of every genre. I offer up either The Negation or Nihility as the best technical death album.
Super quick list I made up as I wrote
Alternative*: Slipknot - Vol III: Subliminal Verses
Avant-garde: Opium Warlords - Taste My Sword of Understanding
Black: Impaled Nazarene - Nihil
-Atmospheric: Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
-Depressive suicidal: Exiled from Light - There Is No Beauty Left Here...
-Progressive: Galaktik Cancer Squad - Eroberer
-Raw: Satanic Warmaster - Strength & Honour
-Symphonic: Anorexia Nervosa - Redemption Process
Black/thrash: Urn - Soul Destroyers
Black/death: Behemoth - Pandemonic Incantations
Death: Asphyx - Deathhammer
-Brutal: Torsofuck - Erotic Diarrhea Fantasy
-Melodic: Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll
-Symphonic: Fleshgod Apocalypse - Labyrinth
Death/thrash: The Crown - Doomsday King
Doom: Candlemass - Ancient Dreams
Drone doom: Sunn O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions
Experimental**: Arkhamin Kirjasto - Torches Ablaze
Folk: Korpiklaani - Ukon Wacka
Funeral doom: Elysian Blaze - Blood Geometry
Gothic: Paradise Lost - Tragic Idol
Grindcore: Repulsion - Horrified
Groove: Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
Heavy: Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
-Symphonic: Nightwish - Century Child
Industrial: Turmion Kätilöt - Hoitovirhe
Post: Sólstafir - Köld
Power: Sabaton - Coat of Arms
-Symphonic: Avantasia - The Mystery of Time: A Rock Epic
Progressive: Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Psychedelic: Oranssi Pazuzu - Muukalainen Puhuu
Sludge: Cult of Luna - Cult of Luna
Speed: Blind Guardian - Battalions of Fear
Stoner: Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Thrash: Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Viking: Falkenbach - Asa
* umbrella term for genres NOT fitting with the rest of the list.
** I see avant-garde and experimental as different genres while they could be considered as one

I am personally in between. I find his views hilarious and he seems like he would be a pretty nice guy in person despite me being episcopal. His music is great but I know some people either worship him or despise him to the point of refusing to listen to any of his music.
What is your guys stance on the guy?

We've had plenty of discussion about Varg here. If you want to read what we think about him, just go through the last 100 pages. Most people here despise him or make fun of him, though there's also a fanboy or two. I like some of his music and don't give a shit about his ideology or actions.
