They're called 'arguments'. Maybe you've heard of them?

It's fun to unleash some energy and aggression to awesome music alongside others. It's like a brotherhood type of experience, for metal fans. Plus, it's a natural bodily reaction to kickass loud riffs, just like "grinding" is a natural reaction to sleazy dance music If you fall or get hurt, people will help you. It's not just mindless brawling. There's a flow to it.

Most of your 'arguments' contribute little because they are coming from a place of ignorance and contrarianism, and you have a bad habit of dismissing the corrections of people who know more than you do.

"Natural"? I've heard plenty of "kickass loud riffs" and never impulsively slammed into the closest person. The same goes for grinding and "sleazy dance music".

I'll admit to the ignorance, but contrarianism? I think not.

I've never been to a concert of any kind. Never had the money or the means.

You just said you've never been to a show. It's different when the music is being played live and everyone around you in a crowd is as pumped up by it as you are. Adrenaline through the roof.


On another note, I just looked up the average Nile ratings on Metal Archives. Why is At the Gate of Sethu so low compared to the others? It's my second-favorite Nile album after Annihilation...

Right. RYM is love, RYM is life. Metal-archives averages just a few review scores. RYM combines thousands of people's ratings. At the Gate of Sethu is significantly lower on RYM too.

I'm not "scared" of the extreme subgenres, I just don't like them because, for the most part, they suck. Growling in a song is fucking stupid. What's the point of singing if nobody can understand what the fuck your saying? They might as well be speaking a dead language.

Sometimes I actually PREFER it because I don't pay attention to lyrics anyway and I'm probably better off not knowing what the hell they're saying. Not to mention I sometimes listen to a band who intentionally, on occasion, sings in a made up language that is pretty much just singing to fit with the music.

Not as stupid as standing still with your arms folded at a metal show.

I have social issues, though, so I'm definitely not going to be moshing. I'd be way too uncomfortable. But then again, the only concert I went to, I went to the empty balcony...

Mostly because it still sounds like they're actually singing and not just making random noises. I've listened to Rammstein in German, but then again that's not much of a stretch from English so it was somewhat intelligible to me.

But unintelligible growling and made-up languages is where I draw the line.

I can see you liking this band, they're not heavy by any means. Kind of a cross between rock and traditional heavy metal. But they're metal enough to make it to the Encyclopedia Metallum so why not, right? 100% of their lyrical content is patriotism and historical figures and battles that Poland's been involved in. The song I linked to is my favorite by them, it's about Zawisza Czarny (Zawisza the Black, who was named after his dark hair and matching armor), who fought in the Battle of Grunwald and later fought the Ottomans, but he died in battle, standing his ground even when the King he was serving under at the time told him to retreat.

I'm already into funeral doom; would it be easier to get into death through death-doom or through melodeath? And what would be good bands to start with, in each case?

Just get the entire first two albums. All the songs are the best songs.

But if I must narrow it down, here are particular favorites that you don't have: Black Horizons, The Somberlain, A Land Forlorn, Night's Blood, Where Dead Angels Lie, Thorns of Crimson Death

I want to get into death. Right now, the combination of fast tempo + harsh vocals + harsh instrumentals really turns me off, but I want to appreciate it. I'm already into funeral doom; would it be easier to get into death through death-doom or through melodeath? And what would be good bands to start with, in each case?

Here is something that combines melodeath and death doom

Other good doomy death metal: Paradise Lost, Autopsy, Dead Congregation, Katatonia, October Tide

As for melodeath, I know way too much stuff to list. The early groundbreaking works of the Big Three (In Flames, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity) are a great place to start though. If you're looking for more of a modern approach, you can't go wrong with Insomnium or Amon Amarth.

So far the only band I've heard to succesfully pull off death/doom is Asphyx, especially songs We Doom You to Death and Minefield. Will check those links after I've slept.
