I've done them twice.

By the time you get strong enough to stand on your own, everyone else has already formed mega empires. It's tough - and it doesn't get easier.
In my most recent game (1.12) I ended up with a PU over Russia. So that made it easier.

How to Roman?

My favorite way to play Byzantium, ATM is with the Third Odyssey mod. But I wanna know how to for realsies Rome.

1. get diprep adviser
2. ally polan and litauen
3. insult ottoman
4. start fabricating claims on all of the world
5. wait for war

it's also much easier, I've heard, to do in 1.13 than 1.12 because nations are more likely to ally enemies of rivals, and also AE has been drastically reduced so you can take more land in wars.

I noticed at my Japan play that the Paradox developers seem to love Japan so much. Too many unique events for such nation.

Before 1.8 they were completely broken. Crippling religious events that barely ever worked, you'd often lose all of your vassals when you annexed Japan, etc.

Not the most glorious of jobs I admit but being without work for a year and the lack of a vehicle means that my options are very limited.
My stepfather works there and impressed them and he helped get my foot in the door.

Now i might actually be able to save enough for a vehicle instead of being a parasite on my mother and stepfather.

I was going nowhere and now have something I can work towards. Nothing can break my good mood right now!

Ha. I'm more of an EU and HOI man, myself. I can barely play Victoria 2 without driving myself into a nervous wreck. CK2 isn't much better.

Aldrich the Able died at the age of 30 on 3 December 1218. During his 14-year reign, he extended the mighty Latin Empire to include most of Greece (only missing Aegea and Epirus to own it all), survived a civil war, fended off a Byzantine invasion (in a war that lasted exactly nine days), and became one of the history's most famous scholars, after challenging the religious position of an Earth-centric universe. He also cemented the von Ost dynasty in Greece, and went to great lengths to establish Catholicism in the formerly Orthodox territory.

His son, Rutger von Ost, ascended to the throne at age 9, sparking a long regency in his name. Rutger was Aldrich's only son (he had three other children - all daughters - and his wife was pregnant at the time of his death) and thus took the throne rather cleanly.

This put Greece in an interesting situation. The Latin Empire was caught in a 7-year regency. The Byzantine Empire, on the other hand, was caught in a 6-year regency, after Aldrich commissioned the death of the 15-year old former heir to throne.

However this interregnum ends, it will certainly be interesting.

However, the Germans, despite having 0 manpower, are able to fully reinforce their brigades. And they regain organization faster then my French troops do. While the front is stable until about July 1945, my troops cannot withstand sustained attacks by the Germans. In May I had to abandon Dresden and Dusseldorf, and the defensive line has fallen back around one or two provinces across the board.

Until the Americans can land in Germany, I'm thinking of implementing Operation M II, falling back to the Maginot once more to reorganize and prepare for another counteroffensive.

Does anybody else have any ideas?

If they're at 0 manpower, they'll eventually start to undersupply their troops, and when that happens any advantage they have over you will vanish.
Hold out, it'll happen eventually. Iirc in HOI3 Germany starts to get serious nerfs once the war drags on past 1945.

I'll do the egalitarian playthrough later.
I want to see how much potential for cruelty there is first.
I was disappointed with how little options I had in Vic2 to be evil.
I couldn't turn the CSA into a transcontinental slave empire.
In Stellaris however I'm going to try and make a race and culture that mixes the best parts of the Uruk-hai, Klingons, and Caesars Legion into a terrifying force.

How does one even army in HOI3? I have no idea how to work the military, especially in troop movements and such.
