I'm talking in general. It is very likely that the most sophisticated technology you could get after a nuclear war would be radios.

OK great so am I, I'm wank at articulating myself through writing, which means I'll never be a very good novelist. Neither will you.

The Apocolypse may not be initially caused by nukes they were used after the initial destruction which will be caused by what will amount to Railguns mounted on platforms/satelites in orbit around the earth. ALso would all energy souces and the like be screwed up by a nuclear war or only a few. if you could answer this when and or if you respond I would be greatful. The technology in the vaults will be protected and power by sources immune to any adverse effects left behind after the apocalypse.

having parents who own a publishing house probably increases the chances of teen novelists being published.

why did you ask if I read, were you about to say read books along the same lines as what you are planning to write because if you were then I already got that advice from my creative writing teacher.

Railguns can't possibly cause an apocalypse and since I tend to stick to realistic settings, the only plausible apocalypse triggers would be nuclear war, biological warfare/pandemic, sudden acceleration of the Holocene mass extinction event or something of cosmic origin.

As for nuclear war, it is very possible that all major power-producing installations will be destroyed. A nuclear exchange is likely to include strikes against critical infrastructure, which includes power stations. If there are any power generation facilities left, they will be operational only for the military and what remains of state governments, if anything remains of them. There will be no cities, very few villages, very few farms, very expensive food, maybe some industry, and all of that will be concentrated near the Equator and in countries with a very hot climate as the rest of the world will freeze to death.

If you want to write your own novel, I suggest be original and research apocalyptic scenarios (and also improve your English) and come up with something somewhat plausible. Post-apocalyptic fiction always requires at least a certain degree of plausibility, otherwise it loses its grim element.

That's part of the reason I asked, yes. I also asked because there are people who want to write, yet they don't read, so their writing suffers.

Just being realistic mate, he can't write very well, his novel idea is a childlike ripoff of his favourite video games, it won't go anywhere. I'm prepared to eat my words if he becomes the next big thing though.

Tbh, it's true. Not trying to ruin anyone's dreams, but making a book based off of FallOut...it just seems very unoriginal and childlike. And his grammar is not the best.
For anyone wondering, I joined this website during my edgy teenage years. I made a lot of dumb, awkward posts, flip-flopped between various extreme ideologies, and just generally embarrassed myself. I'm just curious what it is that compels the both of you to point that out. There's simply no need for it.

Also, an idea being bad, unoriginal, or childlike isn't a reason not to write that idea down. It won't be published, most likely, but that's not really the point. You have to write bad, unoriginal dreck before you can write anything of substance.

if you always look on the dark side then you may be too disenchanted to improve on anything.

I would like to point out that i will merely be taking certain things from the worlds of RAGE and Fallout, the entirety of the book may or may not contain many influences from the aforementioned games. Also if people only created novels with no influences from preexisting novels or games then the literature pool would get stagnant pretty quick.
