I did write a novel (iirc about 60000 words) and quite a few short stories (2000-8000 words). They were awful, so no, I'm not sharing. But I stopped writing more or less completely in 2011 for some reason.

Now I'd like to start again... I started writing a novel in december but quickly had to downgrade my ambition to writing a "practice novel" where I focus on writing three-dimensional characters and ok-ish dialogue, whilst ignoring all other aspects of novels. Currently about 20000 words into the first draft (I'm hoping it won't exceed 100000—in the second draft of course that would have to be cut down quite a lot) and a bit stalled. (That's actually why I came back to NS honestly. I was like "wait, there was that site where I used to post a lot of writing, Micronations or something? Maybe some of it was better than what I'm doing now?" Eventually I remembered the actual name and the passwords of my various nations, but unfortunately the writing was just as bad as what I'm doing now if not worse. Oh well!)

I've actually started on one, though I'm only 3 1/2 pages in and work on it sporadically. I've got to be in a very particular mood to start writing at myself.

I started writing a manuscript. At this rate I should be fat and old and on death's door step in time to have a fan base that's worried if I'll ever complete the series.

I have but it's not published, it's just lying around in one of my notepads. It was quite a good story but not my favourite that I've come up with (in case you're wondering where my other stories arec they're mostly also lying around in notebooks, unpublished because...well, I haven't published them).
I currently am growing an idea for a new one that's slightly darker and more gothic than what I'm used to and I'm really looking forward to start it, although I have a billion unfinished ones lying around.
If you want to write, I suggest you go out and buy a cool notepad (I'm not joking, it makes me feel more inspired to write) make sure you have some awesome stationery (it makes it more fun to write). Once, you have an idea in mind, go for it. You can start with the basic plot, an idea for a turning point or an idea for a character but not all starting points are completely normal- some of my initial ideas are a bit strange. For one of the stories I came up with, I started off with the initial idea of a car crash, I wasn't sure where it was going to be or what would be affected but I just started a story working around that. What I'm saying is, be as weird as you like and as creative as you like, just go for it!

Old Tyrannia wrote:I'd love to, but doing something like that demands a lot of time, effort and commitment on the part of the writer. At some point in the future I'd like to give it a try, though.

Unless you're under contract, it's typically best if you take your time and not see it as a chore. Writing is meant to be enjoyable. One of the biggest things aspiring writers run into, is writing for someone. Write a story that you would want to read, take your time with it, and write as much as you want to, when you want to. It'll also keep you at ease with it, and help keep away writer's block.

Even though my skills in RP are decent, I've always wanted to make a novel where Russia invades Bornholm. I hope that it will become a reality some day (the novel, not the invasion (-_-) )

I think my short story would be nice as a novel.

I tried writing a novel once. It lasted 8 notebook pages before I gave up. I hope to make a novel about civilians in a distressful situation like war or a plague or something like that.

I don't know that if I were to write a novel that anyone would want to read it.

I'm currently doing research to write one. And gearing up so I don't lose it to a software incompatibility, like the last one

It'll be a Mythpunk fiction piece.

I'm currently writing a novel about the accidental drowning of a young girl at a local pool and how the lives of the lifeguards are affected as the community reacts to the tragedy.

Probably not. I like the idea, and I'm a fairly good writer, but most of my writing skills have been directed to nonfiction writing, and as of late, legal writing. I'd doubt I'd make a novel that a mainstream fiction publisher would accept--I'd be too concerned about making a sound moral or philosophical point that I worry I probably would end up compromising the story's characters to become little more than pawns, or otherwise make the plot very, very drab or otherwise abstruse. Also, even if I got a niche publisher to accept my work (and I wouldn't go into vanity publishing), I've probably sunk so much time anyway that any outright buying or even royalties would likely be less profitable in the long run than a more reliable stream of revenue by churning out briefs.

Not that lawyers don't write novels, of course, but you get the picture.
I’m mostly here for... something to do, I suppose.
