No, it's something to do with a horse.

It was even referenced in the very first episode of the show (or maybe the second; memory fails me).

Nightmare Moon asks if ponies still remember her name, or something of that nature. One of Pinkie Pie's suggestions is "Black Snooty."

It was the first episode. Here we go:
Nightmare Moon: [chuckle] Why, am I not royal enough for you? Don't you know who I am?
Pinkie Pie: Ooh, ooh, more guessing games! Um, Hokey Smokes! How about... Queen Meanie! No! Black Snooty, Black Snooty--[muffled noises]

What do you mean? It's pretty well accepted that the line was a shout-out to Black Beauty, which is about a horse.

Well, we are interested in it because it holds rather equal quality of writing and concept to popular cartoons like the Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. It has likeable, well developed characters; and while the plots are not always the most original there is a lot of humor and it is chocked full of clever pop culture references. There is also a lot of art made because the characters are cute but easy to draw.

The 'obsession' - well, if you call it that; there are people obsessed with nearly every show/movie out there, and something of this quality is bound to have a group of diehard fans. Above and beyond that, there is a lot of condemnation from people such as yourself, who insult/demean/demonize even mild fans, which really only brings the fanbase together. A tighter-knit base is one that is more deeply involving.

Black Beauty is an 1877 polemic novel by Anna Sewell, tracing the life of the titular fictional horse from colthood to retirement. Today it is considered a classic of children's literature; however, originally it was not written for children, but as an effort to draw attention to the wildly varying treatment of horses in Victorian England. As a result it contains mini-lectures on everything from bits and blinkers to broken knees. Along the way Beauty also provides a horse's perspective on the human capacity for cruelty and kindness, and comparisons between the treatment of animals and the treatment of poor working-class humans. The book has spawned many film and tv adaptations over the years, with varying degrees of accuracy to the book.

Olthar, if you're here, I'd like to call you in on this and see whether it's officially a subtle or obvious reference.
