I dunno, I kind of like the scene in Season 4 Episode 2 more. I mean yea, Celestia was sad that she had to banish her sister. However she also knew that has a Monarch, she had to protect her kingdom from all threats, even if that threat was her own sister.

That's a really awkward sounding name for a ship. Doesn't roll off the tongue at all.

Celestia: The Iron Princess. She'll do what's best for her Kingdom, no matter the cost.
Celestia: A True Monarch: She'll guide the Kingdom of Equestria with a steady hoof.

I...got nothing else.

Yeah, Celestia's first and foremost a leader; a mother to her men and protector of all her subjects, and she understands this. Of course she's not made of stone, but as I see her, she's hardly the kind to sit around and mope, she got bidness to take care of.

Exactly! She may be in pain because a threat to her Kingdom was her own sister. However, she still has a job to do, she still has a Kingdom to lead. Literally, all of Equestria looks to her for guidance and strength. That's what it means to be a True Monarch, and Celestia knows this better than anypony else.

Not only that, but not long after Luna's banishment, there was a prophecy that she would escape. They might not be meeting again on the best terms, but she will have a second chance to redeem her sister... somehow. It may take a thousand years, but she's got nothing but time. I imagine that would at least be some small consolation.

I wonder about that 1,000 years thing though. Why did it take a 1,000 years for a pony (in this case it was the Mane Six) to help Luna redeem herself?

Because whatever spell locked her in the Moon could apparently only be broken by the stars lining up in exactly the right way.

So, basically they had to wait til a pony was born with stars on her ass, got it.

Prophecies generally don't make sense. But maybe it took her 1000 years to replenish her power enough to return. Or maybe the Elements are really choosy about who they bind to.

Damn prophecies and their damn vagueness. Most of the oracles and prophets are drunk off their asses anyways.

My memory's a bit hazy; did Twilight herself actually "aid in her escape" in any way? I remember a group of actual stars lining up, but...

No. She was just the only one who recognized that Luna's return was nigh.

Apparently everyone else had forgotten or didn't give a shit.

Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about nighttime eternal!

I can't find it, but there was this comic that coveys the idea that the Moon wasn't the prison, but Nightmare Moon was the prison herself and that Twilight Sparkle and the Mane Six aided in Luna's escape from Nightmare Moon.

It only make sense if you take the prophecy above out of context.

So yeah, it honestly just took 1000 years for the right stars to line up the right way (and let's be honest, all the best spells and curses take a millennium anyway). That Celestia eventually couldn't handle the elements on her own and they eventually attached themselves to a group of other ponies is, to my knowledge, inconsequential.

If this is true, then is it only coincidence that the first 5 ponies Twilight made friends with ended up manifesting the elements of harmony?

It could be Fate or the machinations of the gods or whatever that drew the new Elements together; my point was that redeeming Luna didn't take 1000 years because everything was waiting for Twilight and Co. to be born and band together, it took 1000 years for the literal stars to align and set her free so that whoever just so happened to hold the Elements at the time she was set free could make her Taste The Rainbow.

Although it could be argued that, in theory, because everyone has all the Elements to some degree, it didn't really matter which exact people discovered the dormant Elements, just that at least six of them had aspects of one Element in their personalities that dominated those of the other Elements. It just so happened that Celestia thought ahead and sent someone capable that she knew she could trust.

inb4 Celestia had the Mane Six genetically engineered in a lab so that they'd be a perfect match for the EoH. :P
