Are you even capable of sympathy?
Past experiences and all kinda point to no.

It's head doctor mumbo-jumbo. Nothing more.

RD literally went through the entire 5 stages of grief (credit to Ceffy for finding this info):
1. Denial: Denies that hibernation even happens for anything other than bears (doubts info in book, etc.)
2. Anger: Screams at Pinkie ("Don't say it", etc.)
3. Bargaining: Literally trying to stop a season from coming (acts of terrorism, etc.)
4. Depression: Straight-up bawling (4 waifus crying, etc.)
5. Acceptance: Self-explanatory (explains itself, etc.)
Was nice lesson for the kiddies.Everyone on TV goes through the 5 stages of grief. In that order. In the space of one episode. It's more a lesson about television conventions than it is about grief.

Excellent argument.
Point to Ifreann.

Rainbow Dash is best face. Also, she is the Grinch and a terrorist.
Applejack cries on the inside. Twilight simply doesn't cry.
Fluttershy with the tough love...a nice callback to her lesson from the Breezies episode.
The Who's On First joke amused me.
The song was pretty good.
Pony Pity Pile.

I'm also thinking that this episode might be the closest thing the show ever does to dealing with death and loss, for those of you who want to see that kind of episode. Apparently RD even went through the five classical stages of grief.

That's sort of the assumption I was making. That, and cartoon logic.

I would like it if things like this keep happening throughout this season an d the next where members of the mane six done fuck up but no consequences are given. Then one day, one of them fucks up bad enough that the other five realize that holy shit, this needs consequences, but there still aren't any. They're all like what the hell and start asking around about this, and all the other ponies explain that the six of them are untouchable, and that's how it's been for a long time. That's when they start realizing how much shit they've been getting away with and how their privilege has caused them to start losing touch with reality.

This seems like an issue at the core of MLP FIM, there's always going to be episodes where one of the mane six does something or reacts so over the top you have to wonder if we're still watching season 1.

Olthar wrote:I think it's perfectly fine. Dash has never had a pet before, and she's only had Tank fir less than a year. Plus, she's probably never had to deal with loss in any significant way before. She's like a new parent getting told that her kid is leaving her for a long time. How would you react to that? In addition, Dash has shown a propensity for blowing things out of proportion and making a mountain out of a molehill. This is nothing new for her. She was perfectly in character this episode.
Another thing: good character development doesn't change the base personality. No matter how much some people might change, they're always still the same person. It's nice to see when things actually acknowledge that. Dash overreacts. That's just part of who she is, and it will never go away.

That would be pretty deep for what is still a kids' show.
