It's Nick. Even when online-only, LoK had to conform to the norms of children's television (including the idea that only straight people exist). The final scene was the most boundary-pushing thing LoK could do. Anything more obvious, and Nick would have been blasted by the so-called 'moral guardians'. It's sucks, but that's how it is.

So I finally finished Legend of Korra and....

And I wish they had done the whole Korrasami thing better, but I still lost my shit with ecstatic squealing happiness at that end scene.

Not to mention Wu deciding to abdicate is toooootally in character for him. Mako does outright call him out on him not reeeeeeally wanting all that responsibility. The kid's seen democracy work for the UR, it would be the perfect way to dodge his royal responsibilities, which would be even more difficult to handle in the aftermath of season 4. Plus it's probably the smartest move he could make for the situation, to basically admit he is not cut out for fixing his country, and trying to put it into the hands of people who are better suited to the task.

They should have had him invent constitutional monarchy then, hand all the power to an elected official, but remain as the figure head Earth King. Would be a much more satisfying conclusion to his character arc.

Well, destroying the Fire Nation fleet was technically the work of Aang combining with the Water Spirit (with the resulting monster being called Koizilla by fans), and not just the Avatar State. The rest were the result of the Avatar State alone.

Interestingly, I don't think, even a never poisoned, Korra would be able to do so (actually, she can metal-bend, that would help so probably actually). I am very much in the school of thought that thinks the utility of the Avatar State has been much reduced now that Korra is the new Wan and, therefore, there is basically just Korra in there. I think, and I believe this explains several of Ameri's criticisms of Korra, the show displayed evidence that there was power reduction in addition to skills.

Korra in the Avatar State against Zaheer in the Season 3 finale seemed pretty powerful, but of course, fighting one bad guy is very different from making volcanoes erupt, creating an island, and destroying an military base. And, since Roku specifically said the Avatar State is designed to give you all the power of the past Avatars, it makes sense Korra would have a relatively weak Avatar State since she lost her connection to the past Avatars.

I still think, if she actually tried and wasn't such a screw up, Korra could certainly destroy an armada, stop a volcano, or make one erupt. As Zaheer said, her power is limitless, if you recall what he said in season 4, when Korra visited him and he agreed to help her so she could stop Kuvira.
