Wow... guess that answers that question, and why there wasn't any actual concrete relationship established at the end.

At least there's fan fiction to fix that problem.

It wasn't established at the end, but the creators did confirm it when the series was over(And one of them even made a picture, to lazy to search for it though).

Plus it's probably the smartest move he could make for the situation, to basically admit he is not cut out for fixing his country, and trying to put it into the hands of people who are better suited to the task.

They should have had him invent constitutional monarchy then, hand all the power to an elected official, but remain as the figure head Earth King. Would be a much more satisfying conclusion to his character arc.

I suppose being the Avatar comes with some... perks. After all, who would refuse a person that could destroy an entire military base when angered?

An entire military base? Try an entire armada of steel warships. Or stopping an entire volcano. Or freaking separating a peninsula from the mainland, all the way down to the tectonic plates.

Well, destroying the Fire Nation fleet was technically the work of Aang combining with the Water Spirit (with the resulting monster being called Koizilla by fans), and not just the Avatar State. The rest were the result of the Avatar State alone.

regardless, I fully believe Aang, had he at the time been a fully realized Avatar, would've been capable of destroying the armada all on his own.

Interestingly, I don't think, even a never poisoned, Korra would be able to do so (actually, she can metal-bend, that would help so probably actually). I am very much in the school of thought that thinks the utility of the Avatar State has been much reduced now that Korra is the new Wan and, therefore, there is basically just Korra in there. I think, and I believe this explains several of Ameri's criticisms of Korra, the show displayed evidence that there was power reduction in addition to skills.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with you. Korra in the Avatar State against Zaheer in the Season 3 finale seemed pretty powerful, but of course, fighting one bad guy is very different from making volcanoes erupt, creating an island, and destroying an military base. And, since Roku specifically said the Avatar State is designed to give you all the power of the past Avatars, it makes sense Korra would have a relatively weak Avatar State since she lost her connection to the past Avatars.

I still think, if she actually tried and wasn't such a screw up, Korra could certainly destroy an armada, stop a volcano, or make one erupt. As Zaheer said, her power is limitless, if you recall what he said in season 4, when Korra visited him and he agreed to help her so she could stop Kuvira.

I just thought of an amazing meme: Long ago, the 4 nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when M. Night Shyamalan attacked.
