So with that whole thing of Asami originally being a villain, when did they change their minds about that? Like, was it last minute, or early in development?

I think TLA Book 2 and 3 were at the same level for me for different reasons.

I would have rather had LoK Book 4 extended as I thought it went way to quick.

Yes.

I'd say neither one individually caused it; it was the clash between the two that punched a new hole between the human and spirit worlds. :P Don't think Korra could have done that by herself, and I don't think the cannon could have either. :P

Yes, That is exactly what I said! Korra bended the energy from the weapon into a portal, if she had not done so it either would have destroyed the area with a large beam of spirit energy until the vines ran out, or would have exploded and destroyed the area. Instead, she bended it into a portal.

Season 2 might not be so good, but the storyline as well as the ending surprised us.

I say watch it in terms of the plot.

Indeed. Season 2 still has plot significance, so watching it will make it easier to understand Seasons 3 and 4.

LOL  But it really does bring up an excellent point: Avatar has a lot of badass woman, while other shows or movies only have females as love interests and/or eye candy, and nothing else. Just another reason why the Avatar franchise is so amazing!

Probably the only good images Ameri has ever posted.

And Book 2 is certainly worth watching, in terms of plot and because the villain, while not written particularly well, was certainly one of the best in terms of concept.

How is Book 2 weaker than Book 1?

In some ways, Unalaq comes off as a bit shallower of a villain; basically his entire purpose in the plot is to set the actual Big Bad free, but his reasoning for doing so is never really adequately looked at. And the ACTUAL Big Bad basically has no motivation for what he does beyond "My alignment is Chaotic Evil, lulz!"

Though while the overall season 2 feels weaker to me than 3 and 4, the episodes detailing the origin of the Avatar cycle are among the best in the entire series.

A lot of what happens only works because most of the main cast is busy juggling idiot balls, a lot of people find Korra's father annoying and unsympathetic, the love triangle bumbling reaches the heights of its stupidity, and Bolin and Eska was just cringe-worthy. Book 2's saving graces were the origin story and Varrick, which I personally feel don't make up for all the idiot balls that were tossed around.

Fair point. my least favorite Book was Book 1: Air. Very weak. Amon's (or rather Noatak's) motives aren't really adequately looked at, Korra just randomly overcomes her airbending block at the exact moment she needed it most, and in the end, Amon escaped and was never actually defeated by Korra, after he was exposed as a waterbending fraud. Of course, Tarlok killed him, but Korra didn't even really beat him, he just fled. I personally liked Book 2 much better.

While the plot and story of the book were a little weak, the episodes detailing the end of (as the energybending lion-turtle Aang talked to put it) the era before the Avatar and the creation of the Avatar Cycle, the result of harmonic convergence creating new airbenders, as well as the concept of a Dark Avatar were ingenious. In fact, while Unalaq himself was a poorly written a-hole of a character, He is still ranked as my favorite Avatar villain of all time (either him or Zaheer), due to the concept of the Dark Avatar alone.

The Dark Avatar was a predictable and lazily written villain. He would have been decent if any effort at all had gone into his character but instead all we got was a union of two cliched, one dimensional characters to create one rather pointless villain.

Arguably, the same could be said about the Avatar, a union of two heroes...
