A piece on the process of making Mad Max. For a few examples, the canyon scene, apparently the entire canyon is CGI. But a lot of the stuff, like the cars blowing up, are legitimately done for real. Even the people swinging on those big poles were actually done, from what I've seen.

Also, I actually saw the movie, as a followup to what I said, yesterday. Definitely the best action movie I've seen in forever. Best car chase ever :lol2:

Saw Mad Max: Fury Road today. Visually amazing, and the story was just deep enough to stay interesting.

How often can you say you've seen an hour long car chase?

More like 2 hours :P

But yeah. It's so weird. 5 to 10 minute car chases in a typical dumb action movie are so dull they bore me. I was never bored watching this movie.

Yeah. There wasn't much of a story, and while that usually bothers me, they did so good with everything else I don't even care.

That's weird though, right? I mean, I think even including that one I can count on one hand the number of sequels that improved on the original (Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, 22 Jump Street, Gremlins 2, Lethal Weapon 4, The Dark Knight, The Mummy Returns, The Raid 2... okay, yeah, I need both hands but not my feet to count that high).

I actually prefer Alien to Aliens and The Raid to The Raid 2, but yeah, it is always a pleasant surprise when you get a sequel that's better than the original.

There's a few more which you haven't listed though, which might take you up (down?) to your feet:

The Godfather, Part II
Toy Story 2
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Dawn of the Dead (Romero)
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The Silence of the Lambs (if you can call it a sequel, bit of a gray area with this one)
Evil Dead 2
Oldboy
Infernal Affairs II
Batman Returns

There's even a few threequels that make the grade:

Die Hard With a Vengeance
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Toy Story 3
Save the Creme Egg!

Better than the original? Or not quite that good?

I'd say its better, too. Though I didn't watch the Mad Max movies until about a year ago.

I saw that. Boo.

He lived a long and productive life though. Lee was 93, and was still going strong up until his final days. Heck, he made a heavy metal music video at age 87. I'll always remember him most strongly as Count Dooku and Saruman though. RIP, you badass.

I will pretend he died like this: a much more fitting glorious death for him than mere mortality and aging.

Some various tidbits I learned about him: Apparently he was a total bad ass in WW2, and people described him as pretty much being a "real James Bond". Also, he knew J.R.R Tolkien personally, and he wanted him to be Gandalf if a film was ever made. But by the time it did come, he decided he was too old for the role.

Yeah he fought in the Winter war as well with the Finnish Army against the Soviet Union and served in the RAF and the Infantry in Italy.

But he did serve over there, should have put tht down in place of fight.

Jesus, the new Jurassic Park movie is making a shit ton of money. Didn't know so many people actually cared about it  . Man, so many things do well solely off of old nostalgia from other things. No wonder series are recycled (And I say this as someone who liked Mad Max, so eh, I can't really complain) and we don't just make new things...Star Wars, Jurassic Park, ect...

The new movie doesn't even look exciting to me.

I went to the Jurassic World premiere with a friend who really wanted to see it. It was actually an awesome movie. Formulaic, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Waaay better than 2 and 3. The ten-year break actually did the series a lot of good. It allowed them to take their time and build up some good ideas.

As for the new Star Wars...... I don't think I've been more excited for a movie in my entire life. I grew up thinking of "Episode 7" as a fantasy that would never come true, and now it's actually happening.

GOOD nostalgia though. I'm not sure if JW is recommended to NSers, so I'll just say that it's the best JP sequel yet.

Like I said, nostalgia works well to draw in even more money from an industry who can't do anything new and creative, and if they do, nobody cares anyway :P

Sorry, I'm just very critical of the movie industry as much as I am with my music, and the same goes for books and games. All the industries are full of so much shit and I'm vocal about them. I don't feel like I should put less effort into caring about one over the other, even if I may have more favorites (Games and music)

Movies: A lot of the most popular new movies make me want to watch them less. They look pretty stupid and overproduced.
Music: I don't like modern pop music.
Books: I don't like most teen books. There are too many post-apocalyptic dystopias.
Games: Don't really play many games, but shooter games look boring, as well as games like Clash of Clans.

Pretty much the same for me.

Well, other then the fact I play many games, and constantly watch Steam sales for me even though I never finish old ones...

Though my role playing keeps distracting me from gaming.

Movie: I watch movies from HBO though and Fox Premium and Cinemax, and occasionally on cinemas. But not all movies are very interesting lately.
I like some old music too.

So I enjoyed S2E1 of True Detective. I mean I think there was a bit too much highway overshots among other things, overall pretty good. Though the final closing shot was poor in my opinion. I think Colin Ferrell and Rachel McAdams so far have the strongest performances though Taylor Kitsch is doing alright. I mean it's the first episode so we'll see how the rest of the season goes, but it's gotten off to a decent start.

Do I think it'll live up to season 1? Probably not, though I think it's a good platform for the series to break free of season 1's popularity and set up so that later seasons are up to a similar calibre to season 1's. That's also to say that personally I think people overlook some of the faults of season 1 which season 2 has semi-addressed.

I've seen Jurassic World twice here. It's fantastic!
And yes, I'm looking forward to Star Wars.
However, is anyone looking forward to R'ha? Not sure when it's coming out as of yet, but from the look of the writer, producers and animators, it should be epic!
