Honestly did not expect it to be that well received.

I thought it looked stylish, but while I wanted to see it, I expected it to probably not be really that exciting. Still sounds like there's probably not much beyond "Omg action", BUT it must be some pretty damn solid action film stuff to get that high of a rating.

Well it is done by the guy who did the first two Mad Max films (didnt even know that till yesterday) so it was very likely to have some good action in it.

My dad gets to see the movie, too :( . Because it is Warner Brothers and the company he works for is owned by them, so he gets to see a screening of it after work one of these days.

So I just watched a...very low budget Ugandan action film. Have no idea what the fuck went on. I'm still confused as to what level of so bad it's good it is, because it loops in that circle so much.

I dont think that would ever happen, but it would be so awesome if it did.

Yeah, I should probably be realistic. It would be awesome, though. Anyone worried about Star Wars episode 7? I'm not particularly worried - I trust J.J. Abrams most of the time, but I think that he is definitely better at beginning things than ending them - hence why he is on Episode 7 and not Episode 9...

I think J.J. Abrams is someone who like, starts out well with something, and as it goes on, it gets progressively worse.

I have been watching the Daredevil series. It is pretty good. Nice acting, very good fight scenes for a tv series. I could use some more light and I kinda hate the torturing to get information from the baddies.

So, my dad, who hates action movies typically because he just thinks they've sucked the last few years, said that Mad Max was "One of the best action movies he's seen and definitely one of the best in years". Said just the whole thing felt like it was really quite beautifully done, like the scenes were done in very cool ways. I thought the movie looked SUPER artsy, so not surprised. Not much of a plot, but I don't think any of us expected that from this movie.

Also, he said some of the characters are a little...over the top cheesy, but at first that bothered him until he realized it fits perfectly with the old Mad Max movies.

I'm planning on seeing Mad Max this weekend. Is it as fantastic as the original ones are?

Critics and early viewers are losing their shit, so it must be at least good.

On another note, I finished Daredevil a little while back. It's the best bit of TV I've seen this year. I mean, Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin. Holy shit.

Huh, Mad Max didn't quite do as well as I thought it would on opening weekend. Only 44 million. And freaking Pitch Perfect 2 beat it. I thought that was like, a vaguely popular movie, but what the heck?...

What I'm liking about hearing about Mad Max so far is how much of the movie was apparently practical effects, and how most of the cast did their own stunts. And all the people up on the big poles and whatnot that was going on seems to have been legitimately done and done with logical science planned out for them as well or something. But just seeing practical effects for me is a plus. I know all of the cars are legit cars made for the movie as well.

Well, Age of Ultron is still doing ok, pulling in $38M. So it may just be that people who wanted to see a summer action movie picked one or the other at random.

That seems to be why people are going crazy about it. Some CGI is good, but people have really run it into the ground recently, and it doesn't look good when overused. Modern fight-scene and chase-scene cinematography have suffered from too much green-screen and shaky-cam nonsense. It's hard to get coherent visuals with that if overused.

Yeah. I have a feeling it will hold up well with word of mouth.

Yeah. With how CGI has been lately, where that's all a movie is, I've just become really bored of it most of the time.

That worked for the original Mad Max; it's why the series exists at all.

I can't believe they're doing a new Fantastic Four. I hated the last F4 series.

It was basically the Avengers, but boring.

I loved Ioan Gruffudd in the F4 series. Maybe thanks to Welsh pride, and I also knew him from Amazing Grace and Hornblower. I still thought he was epic in it, though!

Because the last attempt was a spectacular failure, leading Sony to realize that their plans for the property weren't going to work in the long run, and their best bet was to enter into a partnership with Marvel Studios so that they could get in on the Avengers action before it bottoms out completely.

Agreed. I don't really get why people like them. Or rather, I can appreciate why some enjoy them, I just dislike them.
