I should see Looper. I liked Breaking Bad but it was far from perfect I thought. I hated the "wife" and didn't like the last season.

But it seems to me that that is the kind of show that I would enjoy as long as it isn't terribly done. Much like that Star Trek reboot. Star Trek was a good concept. Put a decent director in charge and give him the freedom to make something decent and it will turn out pretty okay.

Still didn't like his Star Treks at all but I am the kind of guy that liked Star Trek I more than Wrath of Khan so my opinion doesn't count.

The movies of Rian Johnson:

Evil Demon Golfball from Hell!!!
Brick
The Brothers Bloom
Looper

Never even heard of them. Let's put him in charge of Star Wars. It is not like we will be able to get anyone better... (Or more proven)

Looper was pretty good.

Seriously, J.J. Abrams has a history of being inconsistent.

Also the Star Trek films are meh (especially the newest), so yeah...

They should have asked more interesting directors to do it. Abrams is just one more of those Jack Snyder, Michael Bay typeof directors that know how to make a movie the masses can stand to watch.

But Star Wars is something special. I would have asked Peter Jackson, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino... Any remotely interesting director that is used to working on big productions.

I mean, it's Star Wars. It is going to make money anyway. Take a bloody risk. Give it a more modest budget while you are at it.

I used to have high hopes for Jack Snyder because I really liked his Dawn of the Dead and thought 300 was pretty innovative and fun but I didn't like any of his other movies.

Meh. Peter Jackson would be as bad as far as I'm concerned, and I don't see it being Wes Anderson's thing at all, or Quentin Tarantino as far as I know.

Really? The 2nd one was about as bland and boring as you can possibly make an action movie. Nothing about it seemed at all worth anything to me. Well, except Khan I guess.

First one I can't really say because I don't remember it all that well.

Seriously though, they made all the damn Star Trek characters boring as hell. I honestly don't get what it is to like about the movies.

It says "Star Trek" on the label and it has fancy SF/X. I didn't need to watch anything but the trailers to know I wouldn't like them.

There are a lot of Trek fans, and apparently a fair number of fans of whatshisname who plays Kirk and the other whatshisname who plays Spock. I guess they're all happy with what they saw.

I like the guy who plays Spock, actually. The guy who plays Kirk? I don't really know him but my god James T Kirk (Is that right?) is terribly cheesy....That roll really doesn't show me anything at all of his acting capabilities. Just seems like an annoying cheese ball, who as the Honest Trailers points out, is a TERRIBLE choice to be the freaking captain.

The original is a great film, easily an 8.5-9/10.

The remake was solid, without being spectacular - rated it a 6/10

Yes i did. I really enjoyed the action, it has some of my favourite actors who i think nailed their roles such as Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Benedict Cumberbatch. The effects and sets were great and the stories were not over top which a lot of movies try and do this day and fall right on their faces with it. They were simple well rounded stories that worked fine.

I enjoyed the remake as well, i think both movies are just as good in their own ways, they would both probably be a 7-8 for me though i dont like rating stuff on a 1-10 rating anymore.

Huh. To each their own I guess. I thought the action sucked to be honest. Especially in the 2nd one. Because there was nothing exciting about it.

I guess there's just not enough to the movies for me to think they're worth anything. For one, action and special effects don't make a movie for me, and never will. And yes, the special effects were good, but that's like, all movies focus on nowadays and it's annoying. And like I said, I didn't think the action was good so I can't even use that to its benefit.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan though was the best part.

So last night while I was playing Lego Hobbit (Ahem, yes, move along) I was informed that Legolas himself was never in The Hobbit book...really? They added way more bullshit to the movies than I realized. And Legolas is freaking boring in The Hobbit. All he does is his physics defying bullshit. I'm sure it is some "Fanservice" bullshit. All this crap they added to The Hobbit movies for no reason makes me dislike the movies more...

Really. And Thorin was not Aragorn Lite, nor was their any "dragon fever", the White Council and the Necromancer were offstage -- I'm not sure offhand it they were even referred to or whether they're only in the Silmarilion -- and a bunch of other crap.

Well, yeah. The Hobbit is a very simple story. But a decent retelling as a movie probably does take two films. Rankin and Bass had to cut a lot of stuff to make it fit into one.

Oh, they were. It made them a fortune. And by "them", I mean "Peter Jackson". He had trouble raising money for the movies intially, and ended up putting up a lot of his own money to get them going, and owning a lot of the movies as a result.* So, there's no reason he'd want to to pad the movie out with pointless action scenes, a made-up romance, and a lot of non-canonical fanservice. Nope, none at all. :p

*: IIRC, he put up the initial $10 million and was rumored to have owned about 25% of the movies. But take that with a grain of salt, because that was a few years ago, and I have verified it since. So far, the Hobbit trilogy has brought in ~$2.6 billion dollars, and if Mr. Jackson gets any significant fraction of that, he's now extremely rich.

Finished season 3 of Parenthood 8)

Not that I intentionally watch many shows in this realm, because they tend to be meh in some regard or other (Ahem, Modern Family), but this is easily the best "normal life" TV show I've watched. And the ending here is pretty crazy...This whole "sky babies" adoption thing or whatever the heck you call it would be so weird.

Well...The Hobbit movies are dragged out as well...Hell, more so. At least The Lord of the Rings movies had, well, 3 books, 3 movies. Not 1 book, 3 movies...

I actually think that BotFA is too short. And then i remembered that they initially planned 2 movies, not 3. Probably would've been better that way.
