Upcoming WWII Mahou animu preview. And against the actual Nazis, apparently. This can go wrong in a lot of ways, but damn, I hope it doesn't. >_>

I watched season 2 of Gate I skipped most of itami and the dragons because I truly Hate the blond elf girl. Lelei's arc was entertaining I liked seeing magic in the show. I think watching a modern military curb stomp there fantasy counterpart is losing its charm. unless in season 3 The Imperials learn how to build cannons and muskets Japan will probably just annex them like it looks like they want to do.

In the final weeks they did desperately try to stroke the Soviets' ego and hope for an Unthinkable-esque situation, or some ministers at least. If judging by leverage and manpower at least even until 1946, it probably would have ended up worse for them than even in The Place Promised in Our Early Days- with or without a Soviet joshikousei-powered time-travel machine in Hokkaido.

Y'know, I find it an interesting trend in anime that the US is more often then not, shown as the villains or anti-heroes, even though we're Japan's closest ally...

I know the US isn't perfect.... or even good when it comes to foreign relations, and the US military does a ton of shady things, but this view in anime is just odd.

70 years ago, but true.

Still though, after said destruction we helped rebuild their entire nation and boost their economy. Hell, without Disney, anime wouldn't even exist.

Do most Japanese people even hold resentment over that? I believe there was some recent studies that showed that most Japs don't give a shit iirc

Acurate looking early model Panzer IVs in the appropriate era...I'm impressed.
So it's a magical girl anime about fighting Nazis?

Well it depends, really. On the one hand, the average person might not. However, there's also a very politically strong far-right presence, and Japan essentially originated the archetype of the reactionary ultranationalist teen shitposter. On the other side of the spectrum, the Japanese Communist Party is one of the world's strongest far-left formations and is still rather angry about the whole thing. It's probably confined to the fringes at this point, but pacifism, nationalist revisionism, and anti-nuclear sentiment still abound.

While WW2 is probably a factor I don't think it's the main reason why the US is considered villainous. More likely it's the US base in Okinawa which gets really bad press for abusing Japanese civilians.
Combine that with the only real contact most Japanese people have had with the US is with their military personnel. You can begin to see where the tropes in anime come from.

It's true the US are allies with Japan but mostly out of keeping China in check than any real cultural bonds between the two countries.

Shinigami no Ballad. A.k.a. Ballad of the Shinigami.

A short little thing, the shortest I have ever seen, consisting of a mere six episodes. All revolving around Momo, the most angelic, kind-hearted Shinigami ever. One of those angels who make you go aaahww. She's Enma Ai's adorable cousin of sorts. Could have been longer and more elaborate. Soft, pastel-coloured artwork. I liked it surprisingly well. 7 out of 10.
