Just saw Amagami SS. It makes me regret ignoring anime for a few years there. What other hidden gems did I miss?

After taking an anime hiatus that turned into a few years (with the exception of Girls und Panzer... probably in late 2014?) I've started to trudge through my masterlist of anime's to watch again.

I most recently completed RahXephon which was something of a struggle for about the first half of the show. It wasn't that the concepts or characters were devoid of interest, but the pacing was so odd that it was a little off-putting. It crimped the character psychology too, but in the end it was interesting enough to justify the full viewing.

Working on Kino no Tabi now. It seems to be a less interesting spiritual successor to Mushishi, but it's short enough that I expect I'll finish. Some episodes have already been better than others.

Not hidden, but have you seen Ghost in the Shell? It's fantastic.

As for hidden, I suggest watching Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. It's really funny.

Made my way through Phantom Blood, and have just started Battle Tendency. This anime's brutal. I like it.

EDIT: He just pulls out a tommy gun? This anime. 10/10.

I never really had that problem with Rahxephon.

Getting a handle on the time was hard for me at first, because it seemed like after every episode, characters relationships with each other would change without being explained, like there was character development they were jumping over. In the end it didn't matter that much, but it made immersion harder.

How good are you at drawing manga-style characters?

I'm decent, but I still have a long way to go. Epecially with individualism as all my characters look alike. I've got faces and the exaggerated expressiones nailed down, though.

The hardest parts for me are the rest of the bodies and hair, all the males have the same hair style (Spikey on top, and long on the sides.)

I have an exceedingly low budget to do things (I really want that summer job as a telephone operator or tour guide now)- I do them by hand too- and I think that extremities are the hardest thing to make. I've more or less used the lazy body-head proportion of 5.5:1 to 6:1...like a lot of manga, tbh.

Though I've drawn new characters, I think I won't upload anything new this week. My self-doubt always says that but I believe I put painstaking efforts in attempting to make varied people and faces; young and old, fat, vaugely Japanese-looking or not, etc. Please see my "character sheet" link, even if it's very pathetic now. But I'll definitely have more free time now.

I like it, it's better than what I can do. My characters are too simplistic and not very manga-looking imo, but it's an attempt. The simplicity is due to laziness rather than lack of skill. I also usually draw faces rather than whole bodies since faces are very important for expression and individuality and gives me a starting point for the character's appearance.

Below is a samurai character (it's just a head, but he's supposed to be a samurai because he wields a katana. He has an eyepatch because eyepatches are cool.

At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.
