They aren't cheap- the 1:1 scale resin set I got was a good $100. Gonna build a nice fancy wooden display box that my brother-in-law is going to wire up with LEDs to light them up. :D

I found this set for just $16. But then again it's Amazon, so it's kind of hard to trust.

That's super nice of you. Unless your friend doesn't like her(?) nickname. Then that's kinda a dick move.

Yeah, there are a lot of dodgy knock-offs online for those. That listing outright says it's from China. Definitely an item that's better ordered from a trusted vendor or in person where you can give 'em a really careful looking-over.

She picked the nickname herself! Bulma is one of her favorite characters, and as she describes it, her real name is stupidly common where she grew up to the point of frustration. I knew her as Bulma for years before finally prying her actual name outta her! :lol2:

The Persona 4 animations are a mixed bag.

On one hand all the convo choices I made in game were made canon (apparently).

On the other hand it was a bit... Flanderized.

Not to mention Golden. That adaptation was a crackfic IMHO.

Pff, $100 is in the normal range for moderately higher-end anime merch. I have Gundam kits (perfect grade Zeta, for instance, or perfect grade Strike Freedom) that cost more! And with the cost divided among half a dozen people, it's not bad. =p

I remember blowing ~$400 on Gundam and Hetalia merch once.

I can't remember where... I think it was in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur when that happened.

100$ is pretty moderate for anime merch. Except for DVD's or Blue-rays, which run anywhere from 10$-500$ depending on the series and licensing company.

Well the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, so I just assumed that it was legit.

A lot of people also don't know the signs to look for to tell the knock-offs from the legit ones. Granted, if it's a damned good knock-off, then the whole "legit vs fake" thing only really matters if you're specifically looking for legit and/or for reselling later.

One of the reasons I like to see the product in-person unless I'm pre-ordering it directly from the manufacturer or a reputable direct vendor; anybody can slap stock pics of the real ones up on ebay or Amazon and actually be shipping crappy knock-offs. When you see it in person, you can examine the boxes to be sure all the logos are where they're supposed to be and the right color/design/etc, and check the product itself for the common signs of a knock-off such as shoddy craftsmanship, obvious seam lines from a cheaper mold/casting process, thin/messy paint, that sort of thing. There was a Trunks figure at the same convention that I'm almost 100% sure was a counterfeit because the colors weren't as saturated as they ought to be, and on the actual figure, the pockets on his jacket are actually sculpted bits that stick up; on the one at the con they were merely painted on, hinting at a counterfeit lacking the ability to capture finer details like that in their moldmaking process.

It's a serious problem, especially for character figures. Smaller vendors often don't even realize they've been duped into getting fakes. Even some bigger vendors can fall for it. Larger conventions tend to try and keep a sharper eye on it because that sort of thing can be really damaging to the event's reputation. (For instance, if Fanime catches a vendor in the dealer's hall at con with bootleg merchandise, that vendor gets kicked out immediately and in most cases banned entirely from future events.)

First season was Harem Art Online, with an unbearable need to use time skips, and having the main character as the strongest player in the game... in an MMO, which doesn't ever happen.

Second season (SAO II) sounds pretty good though.

I didn't enjoy it when .Hack did it, and SAO did very little different IMO. There's also the fact that I just straight up don't enjoy the story and plot. Ain't my kinda thing.
