Damn hot Swedish girls getting me hooked on anime :?

What up, MtP? Ain't seen you in the anime thread in a while.

Not much man. Just living the life. You?

But yeah, my experience with anime was pretty much Dragonball Z and Yu-gi-oh. Not sure if either one really counts. But since my time at Disney, I use to chill with these Swedish girls who loved anime and watched it with them. Now I find myself liking some of them

I personally believe the "Yamato Nadeshiko" gig doesn't go very well for a good deal of western viewers, in Sakura's case.

In Furukawa's case, its just glurge and narm. It gives me diabeetus and I hate it.

What quality of being "Yamato Nadeshiko" do they hate anyway? :v

To keep a long story short, the Yamato Nadeshiko thing sums up a lot of Confucian-rooted thought on women and their roles and it may rub off as sexist to many viewers in the West. If TV Tropes is to be held as reliable, it may also be that many Western viewers (especially Americans) view the character type as an unassertive doormat. In either case, the Yamato Nadeshiko's nature of bearing and tolerating adversity can be taken in both ways too. One; as an equalizer to the opposite gender in terms of expectation in a collectivist society that strives for harmony. Or Two; as another form of justifying "doormat" status in it's homeland. Forgive my doublethink, I do it often.

However, I'll make no mistake in comparing Western Orientalist and borderline "yellow fever" thought on East Asian female "submissiveness" and "self-sacrifice". Aoi Sakuraba (or your Sakura Matou) is no Madame Butterfly. The first is powered though sheer will and determination, and that, as an ass-kisser to Lafcadio Hearn's/Koizumi Yakumo's ghost, is what makes it "Yamato".

Then again, I believe in a myriad of projections that span borders and stereotypes. I could just as easily be replacing others' projections with my own.

Some of the character designs make me think the artist or whoever came up with it in general might go fucking insane and one day be found out to have cut nipples off or something fucked up like that, collects them in pickle jars.

That time of disturbing, because if a show makes me think the author or the team is willing to make that, thats not good.
