I would recommend trying the other mediums for Lovecraftian inspired things. Persona 2 felt inspired by Lovecraft a decent amount, Mushishi is apparently Lovecraftian inspired, I just haven't seen it so I can't say personally. There is aforementioned Saya no Uta. Bloodborne also has some Lovecraftian beings that look a bit like Ctulhu. I've noticed there aren't many anime or manga based entirely on Lovecraft, they just tend to have Lovecraftian beings.

Mushishi is decent but it's hardly a horror series on it's own, even if there is some creepy parasitic body-horror/possession occasionally. I can't say anything about Persona without quipping Freud jokes. For Nuclear Fist, I really wouldn't recommend Haiyore because of the...story...and the malnourished androgyny. In my opinion, Saya no Uta is the best bet for a solid recommendation because it really is a horror with madness and death. And because the style isn't very bubbly or "kawaii", save for Saya's non-meatvision form.

Mushishi, I think, would better be described as soft horror. There's definitely scary stuff in there beyond the imagery, mostly in the ideas or centered around the theme of "I tried to do something to make myself happy and now I am alone". I remember episodes like "The Pillow Pathway", "Pickers of Empty Cocoons", and "Shrine in the Sea" unsettling me for a long time afterward. There is a sense that some kind of soft horror is intentional, because in the manga, Yuki Urushibara brings up repeatedly that the stories are intended as a call back to a lot of the Japanese folklore that has left the mainstream consciousness, mostly experiences from her grandparents and great-grandparents that they claimed were connected to the supernatural or were stories intended to scare kids to teach them a lesson.

Currently, I'm watching Ouran High School Host Club. I've had some secondhand experience with it by being around friends and family watching it or passing through a room with them watching it, but never really paying attention. So after about 8 years of this anime on the peripherals of my life, I've finally gotten up the nerve to check out, mostly because the art style back then annoyed me but now I'm wistful for it and I've watched enough of the anime that seem to have inspired it to make me be okay with it.

I'm also watching My Little Monster, but I've had mixed feelings on it since the first episode and decided to put it on hold until I finish Ouran.

A few months ago, I finished Rose of Versailles, which I started as a joke but unironically fell in love with. My only complaint is that this anime should have been one episode shorter; it took everything for me to get through the last 20 minutes and not just stop. Other than that, some of the editing is so over dramatic with major cheez-whiz factor that makes it hilarious and you'll be unsure if you should be watching it for fun or because you actually care about the characters. Also, I like that we only see Oscar de Jarjayes's gender identity come into question when a.) she's a young [18-25] and would naturally still be trying to figure out her identity [not that people past 30 don't question it either] and when b.) people confront her about it and blatantly make her feel different. This approach really helped them create a character who was lgbtq without identifying her solely as that, like many shows do but fail to really work in any "good" representation or have any underlying development that real lgbtq/gsrm people deal with.

Also, does anyone know where I can find Only Yesterday with English subs? I don't care if it's digital or if I have to buy a vhs/dvd, just so long as it will work on an NTSC system.

Watched the Nachuyachumi OVA. Started off weak but eventually found back to the old yuruyuri levels of quality. So that was relaxing.

Yesterday I bought a copy of a film marked as horror. It wasn't horror. It was depraved ero-guro horror. The thing was initially banned in Japan and it's only available for private viewing out of it apparently now that I've bothered looking up information...Shoujo Tsubaki/Midori the Camillia Girl. Cute recently-made homeless orphan girl is duped by a ringleader to join a circus, where she becomes the domestic slave of abusive and all-around creepy carnie freaks.

On a special note, it was apparently an "underground production" mostly made by one very obsessive guro artist and a good deal of it was confiscated and destroyed in the 1990s. And because I'm such a fan of details, I went crazy over the fact it was hand-made.

It is a very unsettling film, and I must admit I frightened myself for actually enjoying watching Midori suffer...to some extent. I guess for moé-style emotional attachment (with a doelike and "innocent" and "pure" character) to work with me, I require very heavy sensory stimuli. Otherwise I've turned into a very cold and pitiless viewer with mainstream anime who utterly disregards moeblobs and their plights.

Is "The Pillow Pathway" the one about dreams coming true? Ah, but yeah...the whole thing about happiness and expense of one's self and others does have a really traditional Japanese vibe to it. Other than that...I'm not too familiar with Japanese folklore.

Though I chuckle at the fact my grandparents would have been quite different. My paternal grandparents were quite worldly in the time I knew them and had little taste for the supernatural; either confiding in the rule of God over evil or finding mundane practicality a way to shrug things off. And a great-grandpa from my mom's side supposedly left behind a proverb he always worded: "The dead are dead. It's the living you should look out for and fear." Ironically it's my paternal aunts and my own dad the ones who have a like for folklore and the supernatural; and they particularly like the Goya-esque tales of witches.

So may be a bit late but just realized Nisekoi season 2 was out so of course started watching that and already had some funny moments. Also watched The Seven Deadly Sins recently and can say that I really enjoyed it. It went past my expectations and actually made me enjoy it. Oh oh and the second season of My Teenage RomCom Snafu which so far has been confusing from where it ended in season 1 (may need to go back to check so I can remember everything). The art design in the second season seems better.

OreGairu's second season is better in terms of character development already, and the animation it self is better, but the character designs and art actually suffered.

ive recently started getting into fairy tail, and honestly im beginning to like it alot. i started out with dbz though.

on another note i'd like to ask you guys to check out a crossover RP ive done (fairy tail and D&D crossover) not to be too pushy about it though but if you guys want a link i can post if you want.

honestly it would be a great favour to me if atleast somebody joined cause its started to seem a bit boring for me lately. again not pushing or forcing anybody to join as the internet would warp your views to beleive but im getting to that stage of boredom where im beginning to hate weekends, largely from the severe lack of social interaction :/

I made a pact with a friend that I'd watch the first episode of Fairy Tail if he agreed to watch the first episode of Code Geass. I was pleasantly surprised to be honest, it wasn't half bad. I might even stick with it.

I don't know how you guys were not, but I was extremely disappointed Girls und Panzer was about stupid war games.

When's my goddamn schoolgirl slice-of-life World War 2 anime.

I want to see a Japanese schoolgirl punch Hitler right in the jaw.

Or, even better: a World War 1 slice-of-life anime.

Anyone here seen Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse? It's on my watch list and I'm wondering if it's a good watch. The reviews on myanimelist say yes, but I'd like an opinion or two from somebody who has seen the animu.

Edit: Also, damn near close to finishing Angel Beats, which has been a pretty good watch so far.

Considering that is coming from you, Ameri, I must take it with a bit of salt. Anyway, once I finish off Cowboy Bebop I'll start my watch through it. Now that I mentioned Cowboy Bebop, someone told me last year that the plot picks up around episode 6. Bull. Shit. I'm on episode 16 and it's still episodic as fuck. It's great though, so I'm not complaining.

Also, that's a pretty good OP nigga
