Once in a while lots of episodes at least have a song. There are lots of a examples to name, such as the Canterlot Wedding episodes, Pinkie Pride, Rarity takes Manehattan, and Filli Vanilli. Not every episode has songs, but a lot of them do. Yes, they follow the disneyish pop sound, but MLP:FiM is, in the grand scheme, a musical show.
