Was it painful in the show? I recall Shining Armor having headaches, but I'm pretty sure that was just because he'd been working 'round the clock to shield an entire city and the magic comes from his head.

Well, what would be the correct term?
I don't think there's a biological term, because the only comparable real life interspecies relationships I can think of is between us and the various things we extract milk from. Victim works, because the changelings in the show have been universally hostile, but wouldn't fit in the context of a fanfic in which somepony allows themselves to be fed on.

Pain is a relative term. Though it deliberating effect would probably have been better.

I'm not. If somebody's singing about something happy at six in the goddamn morning, I'm fairly certain that makes me a murderer.

You know, after having to get up at 4:30 in the morning so that I can be at work at 5:30 in the morning, I probably wouldn't mind having one of the Princesses sing sweet songs at me to wake me up in the morning.

(#008 in Problems With the Episode that I Should Care About If I Were Honest With Myself But Really Don't) It's possible that it operates more like magic-- something that a pony can actually live without (see the S4 finale) but the lack of it is some sort of the equivalent of losing one's soul/moral compass/etc.
