Actually, checking the movie, Gretchen just thinks she's as smart/cute/popular as Regina. I was just connecting how they both show signs of wanting to overthrow their leader, but never end up doing it.

Well, Tirek didn't need Discord; what he needed was for Discord not to be helping the people he was up against.

The Dazzlings couldn't have known beforehand, but without Sunset Shimmer's help to the mane six the evil plan would've gone succeeded; Sunset stopped the mane six from splitting via argument, and helped them in the finale.
