I am seriously hoping for a goateed doctor over a clean-shaven doctor.

Harken unto my word, Sir Moffat, for I am a Nationstates Moderator of the Patrexean Chapter, and thus more terrible than you can possibly imagine!

I don't recall seeing Peter Capaldi anywhere else but he had a nice atmospheric effect in Pompeii, so I for one am looking forward to reserving judgement.

The Doctor only has facial hair when he's sad.

That's not a goatee of despair. That's a goatee of evil.

Only because of Spock.

This is a perfect opportunity for Moffat to break convention and destroy a trope.

Look at it.

The goatee makes him go from "Doctor" to "ohmygodeveryoneisdead".

Sylvesterrrrrrrrrrr McCoy would like a word with you.

But Tennant (who is Scottish) should have been allowed to do his native accent. As I said, though his Estuary is good (not that I would know), it just suits him better.

On this much, we agree.

Another Scottish doctor - but perhaps using his native accent, unlike Tennant and McCoy - is probably a cunning BBC ploy to save the Union.

Either Sylvester McCoy is a very dedicated actor, enough so to maintain the accent across any interview I've ever seen in him and a completely unrelated production of Lear, or that's his native accent.

I have a better feeling about this new Doctor than I did when Matt Smith was announced. If I recall correctly, when my wife and I first saw pics of him, it was something along the lines of "Great. Doctor 90210". Glad I was wrong about that, but I have always thought a slightly older Doctor was better. Except for Peter Davison. He was awesome as a youngish Doctor. My greatest fear about this prior to the announcement was that Moffat, who seems to cast mostly youngsters in his main roles, would foist "Doctor Teen Angst" on us. Again, glad I was wrong.

Ah, yes, Scotland - the comprehensibility of the Welsh and the drunkenness of the Irish.

But, there's no need to mask that.

See?

Perfectly understandable, and he was exaggerating it.

Moffat has always said he wanted an older Doctor - I was more concerned about the BBC.

How much do you wager someone suggested a young Doctor, so Moffat cast the second oldest out of spite?
