Pertwee was clearly aware of this - the shower scene in Spearhead serves no purpose other than for Pertwee to wink at the women (and men) in the audience.

Which is part of the reason he's amazing - Three is just so unabashedly vain.

I don't know, Capaldi is not bad-looking. I think he'll win fangirls fairly quickly.

As for acting, While I haven't seen The Thick of It, I've watched clips and him not saying 85 curses in under two hours is somewhat relieving.

Also, getting around to finishing OK Corral. THOSE CLASSIC EPISODES MUST BE WATCHED.

He has something of an unnerving manner, at least as Tucker.

I think that could be interesting. One, Four, and Six were hard to get along with right away, and I think it worked very well.

I've only watched One's tenure so far but yes, until now I've got to agree unnerving Doctors are just as fun as nice ones.

The Gunfighters isn't bad, but most of Hartnell's (yes, including the reconstructions) are at least good. Just started The Smugglers, and I need to to finish it and start the Tenth Planet.

Four is good - though he's no longer as unique as he might have been, so his appeal is lesser.

Six is my absolute favorite Doctor, but he's in about half of a good episode, total. The closest he comes is probably Timewarp, which some consider the worst episode. Ever.

If you watch Six, take some time to listen to the audios. The Sirens of Time is up on Dailymotion, somewhat decent, and has Six kicking ass nonstop.

What's great about Six is that he's a challenge.

In his first episode, he tries to kill Peri and is a total coward - traits he quickly grows out of, but refuses to apologize. He's not a bad man, but he isn't a particularly warm one. He's the Doctor who doesn't care what you think, who throws down the gauntlet "I'm the Doctor now. Deal with it."

It's fantastic, especially since Colin Baker is a brilliant actor - very few people could make a bastard like him so loveable.

After being fired, he understandably was a bit miffed when they were like, "No, but wait, come back and film the regeneration!"

So they had to make do without him.

Yes - he was fired from the role because the show was floundering (due entirely to atrocious writing) and the terrible BBC controller at the time demanded he be replaced if they renewed the show. They offered Colin one last episode, he asked for one last season, they agreed on nothing.

So they put Sylvester McCoy (a great Doctor in his own right, my second favorite) in a wig for five seconds and pretended really hard.

I think that's how he operates.

If you watch his earlier episodes, he's a bastard. If you force yourself to watch another, it just clicks.

To go down the list of terrible things to happen to Colin Baker -

1.) Got fired from his dream job.

2.) Grade, who fired him, was having an affair with Colin's wife.

3.) Colin's son died of SIDS not long before he got the role.

and

4.) He was reviled at the time for choices he did not himself make.

And he remains the nicest man on the planet. Because Colin Baker is that awesome.

Anyhow - all of the Doctors have been great in their own way. There's never been a bad choice, and I don't think they've made one here.

Welcome, Capaldi - God help your soul.

While the fandom is exploding, I've been pleasantly surprised by how few people are screaming "I'll never watch this show again!" as a result of the announcement. There have been a few incidences of that, but not as many as I'd feared.
