Where has this thread been all my life?
Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.

I sort of did, but I never really considered it.

Until now.

It's his loss, but it's not THAT huge a loss. Other than the 4th, a lot of the original doctors weren't as good, which is partially because special effects were terribad back then, and partially because old actors and writers had different ideas of what's appealing. It's possible to only watch the new series and still be a Whovian is my point.

And of course, roughly 200 hours (at a guess) of DW is a very big investment of time and money for people who just discovered the series. Especially since it's fairly easy to pick up the story, even if you miss some of the references to previous episodes.

The special effects were what they could do with what they had. The special effects are secondary to the story. And the classic series stories as a rule are generally individually deeper and richer than most of the new stories. Most of this has to do with the loss of the serial format. And you can't be a Whovian from only watching the new series. Its just silly. You can't be part of the fan base of something and be ignorant and just uncaring about 40+ Years of it and still call yourself a proper fan.

Tom Baker, least favourite?

4 was my first Doctor. And favourite. 5 second, 11 third, 1 fourth, 9 fifth. And those are the only ones that I've seen... :P

Of course, being new to both the forum *and* this thread (where has this thread been all my life?) and expressing such a "radical" opinion as this, I'm probably gonna get lynched.

That was my single favorite episode of the Moffat/Smith era to date.

I had two ideas for Clara:

One, that she was Susan.

Two, that I would hate whatever Moffat came up with.

Moffat chose a third option, and it totally worked for me.

My wife and I were crying and cheering through the entire last fifteen minutes. And thank God Jenny and Strax survived (though I figured they would), since we're still holding out hope for a spinoff.

I love Strax. He's my favourite character.

Strax: SHALL I DESTROY IT!?
Vastra: Shut up, Strax!

Felt like a lacklustre end to a lacklustre series to me. Compared to say the Pandorica/Big Bang 2 ending, or the 2 minutes past five one, this was weak, especially after how long Trenzalore was built up to.

The worst is that there just seem to be so many recycled ideas, not just in the episode but in the whole series. The companion being a mystery in some way, we had a lot of that with Amy Pond. Worlds vanishing, that just felt like a rehash of Big Bang Two. Clara
being duplicated across all of space and time is basically Bad Wolf but with a whole person not just a phrase.
Even the Whisper Men look too similar to the Silence I feel (though this at least may be significant).
FT: The Confederation of the United Pokemon Types, led by Regent Mew.

IKR? For me, he'd be the major selling point of a spinoff. Just the idea that he takes his weekends off in Glasgow, where people understand the value of a good brawl. It was even heartbreaking when he forgot due to the timey-wimey that Vastra was his friend.
