How are we supposed to know that? And furthermore how are we supposed to know it doesn't say Isn't and the major plot point is that Clara doesn't exist and is figment of the Doctors imagination. :p

Actually on a serious note, that would be a really interesting concept for a companion.

My new theory is, based on the prequel, that Clara is a "perfect companion" for the Doctor, built by the Great Intelligence (and based on the Victorian Clara) to lore the Doctor to Trenzalore, which he's familiar with by virtue of the Whispermen.

The Whispermen are the criminals to the Silents' attempt at space cops, causing whatever is going to happen at Trenzalore (probably the intersections of timelines with Ten and Rose, which is bad for Space Reasons) for Space Reasons, which the Silents have mistaken for the apocalypse, for Space Reasons.

One big problem I see here though is that it doesn't provide any good explanation for being stranded on the dalek prison planet and being dalek-ified.

The Dalekification is a happy accident - Oswin was bait planted by the Whispermen.

Alternatively, the Whispermen are the new Yetis/Snowmen and are shapeshifters. Hence, Clara is a Whisperman, as is the evil Strax/evil Vastra we saw in the trailer.

The only problem I see with that is Simeon's overt sexism, but that may have changed since his death.

Well, you know, his distinctive costume is probably the most recognizable out of focus and from a distance.

The official website says it's a screenshot from this Saturday. I found it in some innocuous article about Jenna.

I mean, the article was about Jenna. When they picked the photo to use, I imagine they were thinking about the way she looked in it, not which Doctor appeared in the background.
