The 1800s feel mixed with super-cool tech and alien space pirates, it's just everything awesome. I liked that they didn't spend time analyzing them, that likely would've just bogged down the dialogue.
If I recall correctly, the DVD version of Treasure Planet came with extra interactive disks and a plethora of bonus features that explained a few things about the world in more detail. Maybe you should look into that?
I vaguely remember watching Titan A.E. and judging from the sinking nostalgic feeling I get when I look at the screen-shots and plot summary it wasn't anything original.
As a side note; has anyone seen Iron Giant? Seems like that one deserves a mention here.
To be fair, you also made a great point: it's really goddamn different. It and Atlantis are big outliers. But, again, they're trendy, same way steampunk was. Lots of goddamn steampunk movies got made around the early 2000s. Remember Steamboy?
Also, shit, yeah, I didn't know Disney made The Iron Giant. Alls I know is that The Iron Giant's hype.
Actually, no... never seen Steamboy...
I don't get out much, if the Iron Giant is 'hype' I guess that means it's good? Or maybe over-hyped, which means it was disappointing?
