Martyrdod

I wouldn't call any of that metalcore, but crust punk is another metal+punk crossover genre.

Other good crust bands:
His Hero Is Gone
From Ashes Rise
Aus-Rotten
One Eyed-God Prophecy
Oroku
Severed Head of State
Tragedy (ex-HHIG, but more d-beat influenced)
Union of Uranus
World Burns To Death

There's also Shikabane, from Japan, they're like if emo, powerviolence and black metal had a love child.

crust,d-beat, grind, sludge are the only types that I know of that have a 'metal' sound, not sure what metalcore is XD

Gallhammer, Framtid and of course GISM are also great Japanese bands

I'm generally not a punk rock fan, but I do like some quasi-punk bands, particularly early British punk bands like The Clash and The Ramones.

True. I feel that a lot of the pop punk bands forget the whole anti-corporation thing. I mean punk doesn't have just one sound, but amongst all the different styles, punk shares anti-coporation and subversive sentiments. Without such sentiments it's not really punk, so much as it is a novelty.

There are plenty of punk bands that are apolitical, thus not really anti-corporation, Such as the Ramones.

A lot of punk has metal influences. Black Flag was somewhat metal, while still hardcore. Also, Thrash. Metalcore is extreme metal (thrash, death and black) plus breakdowns.

Metal and Punk, post-1982, are inseparable. DRI and Suicidal Tendencies mixed them, and as I stated earlier, Black Flag. Metalcore, Crust and Grind took off in the late 80s.

Don't have to be political to be against corporations. It's the action of not having to answer to a major record company. One can still be a political and do just this. Quincy Punx is a great example amongst many apolitical bands that didn't go corporate.

Seriously the bands I mentioned didn't belong with the definition of metalcore, so I don't know. I thought metalcore was just another name for the stuff we are all used to hearing.

Usually in my experience metalcore refers to one specific type of metal+hardcore punk crossover and not to any of the others. Crust usually draws more on Discharge and less on American East Coast hardcore. Even crusty bands from New York tend to avoid NYHC influences. Beatdown riffs and chanted or shouted slogans show up more in metalcore than in other crossover styles.

If you listen to the metalcore bands I named and compare them to the crust bands we both named the differences should stand out.

Ah, I see. I've been listening to this stuff for a long time, and still get confused with all the metal variations. At any rate, I'll check it out.

I love the metal - punk combo in its many forms.

Look, the first two albums (dating myself here) I ever bought that weren't classical or jazz were The Clash and Never Mind the Bollocks. But now that the Sid Vicious version of My Way is selling cars, how do we not conclude that the punk revolution is, well, over?

It's not over, it just moved pasted the pistols etc.

[I'm into 30/40s jazz like, 'washboard serenaders' etc. And Antonín Dvořák's requiem, is one of my all time favorite classical pieces; this conversation is for a different thread though]

Checked out the mtalcore bands, not really feeling those much.

That's fine, I mostly just wanted to show the difference. It's funny how metal and punk can be blended in at least a dozen different ways that sound very distinct from each other.

Probably crust or hardcore. I listen to a lot of emo and a fair bit of older metalcore too though.
