You mean the fucking stupid ass plot they tried to shoe hammer in?

Setting, and the expansive background to why the system of forced catharsis came in to place have been ignored because of the movie's plot *sigh*.

Well yeah, thats not explained, doe sit matter though?

Its like what, a few years into the future, it never explains why everyone is pants on head retarded, why the Purge works, how it defies Human mentality with the concept.

The idea would probably be better if the Purge was a monthly event of getting rid of the homeless and ventured into peoples herd mentality and response to authority, but the movie just fucked that up twice with a unworkable plot, lack of detail, cliches that do not matter at all, and just ignoring that one night wouldn't fucking end all crime for a damn year.

From what I read it reads more like people are just doing that for shits and giggles.

If you thin a purge would work, you need help...because it wouldn't, its just as stupid as Lucy (Well not really, if we count that Dolphins and echolocation thing, the the purge comes in second.)

On that note, Hollywood, when you make a movie with a scientific basis mixed in, make sure the idea actually makes fucking sense, or has any grounding in the field of science is in.

It worked in the movie because the U.S was not a republic in the slightest anymore. aAtleast following the second U.S Constitution being implemented.

It doesn't matter what some second constitution (How it arrived? Who knows?) allowed or did.

Biologically, physiologically, the purge doesn't work...

Whats stopping revenge killing, random crazed murder sprees, accidental murder, etc.

Why does one day suddenly make no one violent or want to harm, even though science shows this isn't the god damn case.

Quickly, have the cops close them in and make everyone stand down, if not whip out the SWAT teams and the riot police and crack some teargas canisters and some skulls, if that dont work call out the National Guard with the Stryker's and Bradley's and show these assholes who's boss.

If not, then expect assholes who are arguably worse to take to the streets and attempt to fix themselves the job the state clearly can't do.

But more realistically is will be just like TEA Party or OWS and blow over in a few months or a year or so at most...

The background is explained since the Purge just doesn't take place in "the future" it takes place in an ATL divergent at the point of a mass takeover of a weakened central government in 2014. The weakened government stemmed from a completely disasterous economic situation thus essentially the U.S in this world is the result of a second attempted Business Coup (1933-1934 movement to overthrow FDR it had the back of several ancestors to modern day presidents in OTL, but failed thankfully).

On the topic of crime it still occurs daily the purge is hardly perfect, but in the mind of a totalitarian government which deals with absolutes to the point the Sith look benevolent it makes sense to them (the government doesn't always agree with science).

I'm a bit scared, but from a rational view I don't see anything that big happening. I figure if people were to go on a crime spree there wouldn't be as much murder as I believe there is in The Purge. Plus these events (or at least Detroit's) were scheduled for earlier today, and so far I haven't heard of anything horrendous happening.

Personally I woud prefer HBO deal with the idea rather than a duology which will come out with another movie ending in an absurd trilogy. Then again the Crypteia is far more realistic of a potential series .

Other crimes would probably be more popular choices, and there would still be the emotional or social consequences of murdering someone.
