Whether its a book or a movie, I prefer to have a male protagonist. Its not even about connecting with them, I just like it that way. Does this view make me a sexist?

I don't really care about the character's gender. That doesn't have anything to do with whether they are a good character or not.

I'd say it likely would indicate that. I sat here thinking for abit at various movies and I can honestly say I don't see any difference, personally, in the sex of the protagonist. Ther are certain protagonist I like in certain movies over other protagonists in other movies.... but there's nothing there based on sex and more based on screenplay quality.
