Obviously he's more devious than we ever imagined! That, or the officer is carrying a clipping of antique newspaper for some reason, and at some point Hans was a wanted man presumably on the run, which would of course mean the main basis of many of our sequel ideas were correct.

Or he's a time traveler. But that just circles right back to him being more devious than we ever imagined!
