Yeah, nah fam. I was trying to outflank the group, but it was west-centre of the map and I don't know the terrain in that area, couldn't find a route. Most of our team, as always, lemming'd down the valley flank and didn't make it back either.

WT IV has decent armour for its tier and its health pool is fairly large. Trade shots with the underpowered Russian heavies and you'd have been fine. Angle your armour

It's dawned on me why the Tortoise is so awful to play, and why the community more or less agrees (by having a sub-50% average WR, with garbage damage, kills, time alive and average xp).

It's situational, and must be backed up by cooperative teammates.
You have to hope the lane you move to is the one the enemy comes down. If it's not, you can't move to the other lane, because your team will just push it to the base by the time you get there. There's no point staying in the lane you're in, because you're just following much faster vehicles as they get all the kills before you even have eyes on.

It works great in close quarters if you can hide that cupola, but only if your team is backing you up. And they won't play the objective, even in Encounter. So you think you've got two heavies and a medium backing you up in the objective, and it turns out the two heavies pissed off somewhere else, so you're left inside the objective fending off two heavy TDs and two heavy tanks, and invariably, you lose the game.

My own winrate in the Tortoise is piss-poor, an abysmal 44% with a -15 win difference. And there's no point in trying to improve it, because that -15 difference always balances out to remain completely static. You'll have one amazing game, two meh games, and five really bad games, and the wins will randomise to be 50/50 so you can't improve.

Cancel that, I've had a couple of good games (still not enough to salvage the WR) and that's apparently brought my dailys up to what I'd expect as of late.

Tortoise is pretty decent in top configuration. It's acceleration is meh but once you get to the top speed it's a real nimble tank. Use it's speed and alpha to devastate enemies while making sure you don't take any hits. Your armour is shit for tier V let alone IX.

Definitely carry material. You might just not understand how to use the tank.

Are you messing with me again? It's got a top speed of 22kph and the armour's impressive if you can hide the weakpoints. Almost no guns can get through you frontall, you have to angle the driver's front plate (inexplicably thinner than the identical plate on the other side) and hide the loader cupola; commander's hard enough to hit already.

It is hamstrung compared to the earlier AT-15, which could use its gun arc to hide the loader cupola around both right-handed and left-handed corners and cover. The Tortoise does not have the gun arc to exploit this, and cannot peek around left-handed cover, as the cupola is directly in line with the gun at maximum traverse.

I have not hated artillery more than the last week or so.

I've taken to posting my "killed by artillery" postgames in the official forum's artillery thread, since almost all of them are me at the bottom of the leaderboard, because I've been smashed by skycancer so early in the game that often, I've fired one or zero shots.

Not really. The idea is to hit things, not hit close to where they were two seconds ago. Waste of ammunition.

I sometimes just wait until they get close enough that I can fire over open sights or are close enough that it doesn't take 15 seconds to see where it lands.

Fuck, what a shitty hour and a half session of tanks. Teams were a bit below poor, but not terrible, but rng was just awful. I quit when I did 0 damage in my tiger P while bounces off tier 6 heavies 3 times. Of course I got nailed by an is 2, a kv 2, and a arty with a 45 second span. Fucking bull. There's no goddamn way I should bounce off a fat ass kv 2.

My yesterday was awful. I was 3 for 15 wins in the Centurion 7. I just kept getting put in Tier X matches, usually heavily Tier X matches, whether Tier IX or X, and my team would just collapse every time.

Had a fairly gripping endgame between me on 311hp and him on full-health. I was betrayed at the end by super-bouncy suspension and absurdly poor gun depression on a ridge. I dealt no damage to him.

Except the armor is still bad even if you hide weakspots, because any flat surface is a weakspot. Literally any equal tier HT or TD can pen those. Most of the MT's can too, those that can't are often know for spamming for the 2 key anyway.

So i'm not really sure how 'Almost no guns' equates to pretty much every equal tier tank, and of course, every higher tier tank. The Tort, and Brit TDs like it, get steel wall games for one reason. Sadly, it's not even pubbie ignorance. It's actually RNG, who in these scenarios trollishly deviates appropriately aimed shells set to pen, to an autobounce zone. Or, if that's too difficult, just low rolls the fuck out of the pen.

The armor of that TD line is actually quite awful, when you realize most of the front is flat, barely angled, and at it's best at tier 9, is only 223mm thick. Which is nice, again until you notice its essentially flat.
Oh, or that i think all of them, except maybe the Tort, can always be penned by shooting through the gun mantlet. Which serves us the purpose of damaging your tank, your gun, and killing a crew member, probably the gunner.
