I remember when I played the Lee as a noob and the transition wasn't that hard. Now the French tank, in all my days have I played a worse tank, never. It's slower than a Churchill and has very poor gun handling. The only thing it has going for it is probably DPM and even the Lee has it beat out.

But I haven't played in a while and I'm speaking off of past experience.

The Greater Luthorian Empire wrote:If you are popping out, shooting, and running back you aren't leading the charge you are just sitting in place trading shots, and while that is useful at times it sure as hell doesn't allow your team to move forward any time soon.

Sure it does. Quick, efficient trading and aggressive (but not suicidal) positioning is probably the quickest way to break a flank. It is certainly faster than suicidally throwing yourself into the grinder trying to outfight the 5+ tanks that usually end up in the sensible lanes of engagement.

The Greater Luthorian Empire wrote:While mobility is nice it isn't something that the churchill line inherently lacks, the BP actually has good handling, its speed is simply capped at 20 km/h, it can maintain that speed up some pretty steep hills and can reach that speed quickly.

20 km/h is not mobile. That is barely a step above Maus speed. The idea that you're going to be leading anything with such an immobile mess of a tank is amusing.

The Greater Luthorian Empire wrote:While I agree that the IS are good aggressive heavies, the American heavies aren't at all as you can't take the initiative without exposing your soft hull. The enemy on the other side of a small ridge? Shit out of luck I guess because the second you peak the ridge you are getting popped in the hull.

Only the T29 really has a soft hull in the american heavy line.

The Greater Luthorian Empire wrote:And yet one trick ponies that cannot expose their hull or cannot deal with facing an aggressive opponent because their slow rate of fire apparently work?

Slow rates of fire result in lower exposure. I don't know why you think this is such a major drawback.

The Greater Luthorian Empire wrote:Heavy tanks are pretty much all specialized simply in different ways, Brit heavies (at least 5-7 tiers) are low profile, well protected, high HP tanks with rapid fire guns, the KV-1S and IS line are largely the opposite, relying on big, high alpha guns with more mobility, low hp, and a higher speed. American tanks are probably the most specialized of all with their paper hulls and impenetrable turrets since at least German, British, and Soviet heavies have relatively decent hull and turret armour.

I like how you're only even remotely right about the IS series and a limited selection of the british heavies.

The Greater Luthorian Empire wrote:When I talk about leading the charge I don't mean "hey, why don't I sit here trading shots for three minutes with another tank." I mean "hey I'm gonna rush past this lone IS so my team will move forward and stop sitting in this valley with three heavies being held up by far fewer enemy tanks." Is it risky? Sure. Do I die a lot? Yes. Do I find it useful in winning battles? Definitely, several times I've gotten 2 or 3 artillery kills with my churchills because I went to an area out of the way, killed a lone medium or low tier heavy, and ended up in the enemy base after just 2 or 3 minutes before any enemies could respond.

Good job. I assume the IS was alone because you were so late to the party that your team had killed all of his support by the time you reached the front? Assuredly this is what his happening if running into lone tanks during pushes is a common enough occurrence for you to base your entire playstyle around suicide rushing people.

Sorry, I'd much rather be the one responsible for the IS being alone, than one that trundled semi-uselessly up to the last target and bopped him off as if to say "hai guiz, i halped!"

Also, artillery kills are only useful in that they kill shitlourdes that want to play Farmville: Tanks. While admirable and certainly something worth while in any circumstance, they are not really indicative of being useful towards winning, especially if you've effectively removed yourself from the battle to get them, as your post seems to imply.

So i was playing Erlenberg with the ARL44 just now.

Accidentally knocked myself out of the game by hitting the start button whilst driving over a bridge... brought the game back up and i had driven the tank into the river and drowned...

Going to go punch myself now.

I did that once in my ARL 44 as well. Since then I have been much more cautious driving around on Erlenberg. It was incredibly embarrassing. Generally I just go into auto drive and go read a book and run into rocks and buildings, but this time I ran into the water. Have had to stop doing that on that map since then, although I don't cross the bridge much anymore in the early stages of the battle.

Just because I'm a fan of the French navy doesn't mean that I want to join it in WoT after all.

:P

Yeah it is really embarrassing, my face just lit up red and the team was like "... gj ARL an example to us all truly" and i just said sorry and left. It was the first time i had ever done it so i cant really laugh at people who do it now.

That's nothing once on that river map (is Erlenberg the map with the one river down the middle?) I was looking at a tank behind me and drove straight into the fucking river. Also because I tend to like going through out of the way areas I've drowned myself a couple times by looking at an area of water wondering if I could traverse it before I drown only to drown in the attempt.

Just lost a game in my excelsior. 7 kills and lost to a base cap with no damage, half my team was still alive. Would have at least gotten an 8th (alone in enemy spawn sans their second remaining artillery (I killed the first)) had my team been able to reset cap. It hurt.

Edit: Got top gun again this time in my Tiger H. Guys, I think I may be magic.

lol newbs. Try doing that, but only because you were leading a totally tunnel-visioned Pz IC into the water too. The sight of two Pz IC's screaming down the hillside blasting away at each other only to see them both end up in the water at the same time had pretty much everyone rolling save for the enemy Pz IC, he cried and called me a "pansy-ass faggot" and then left the game.

On Highway though I show the might of the USSR's naval force by driving my T-127 straight into the river every time and following along it's course using it as a heavy spotter/scout. Works magnificently might I add. Slow enough to avoid being spotted by the first string crossers of the bridge in the south or the fjorders in the north, but fast enough to avoid being exposed by the second string crossers/fjorders.

I just had another one also in my Excelsior, on Malinkova I was following a Pz III along the south edge and we each dove into the water in order to avoid being shot. No problem I am fast enough to make it out before I drown. Unfortunately the Pz III wasn't so he drowned blocking me in and killing me. First 30 seconds of the round and my team was two tanks down due to the retardation of two players.

The Red Army used to have loads of amphibious tanks, yes. Not that we have those in the game, of course. Not a lot of cover in the middle of a river, lake or the sea.

Welp, now I expect to see many other people following my example in-game. Besides, it actually works... only problem is that it's Russian, so your optics are ... well... less than acceptable. Stalinium distorts the visual matrices and effects negatively the distance at which one can render a tank...

I find the T21 surprisingly painless tbh. Far from good, though.

If you're interested in (potentially) good and certainly unique light tanks, I'd start working on the Chaffee in preparation for the new American light tanks coming out in 9.3.
