It's happened so many times that I've stopped caring. She really is better at being horribly blunt rather than loyal.

I think she's just dense. She didn't realize how Pinkie felt about it. May even have assumed that Pinkie would enjoy it as much as she did.

Come to think of it, they're all a bit dense. Lauren Faust sort of intended them to be that way, and the writers seem to have continued the trend - they're technically grown up, but they act like children enough that they can do episodes where someone learns a valuable lesson about friendship.

I agree. Dash doesn't know the same things we do; she doesn't have the audience's perspective. She's loyal, but she sometimes doesn't realize when she's hurting ponies.

I would. The only male royalty we've seen is Blueblood, and he doesn't seem to possess any actual authority. Plus, virtually all the other ponies in power we've seen are female. Even the mayor of Ponyville is a mare. The closest any stallion has ever come to power is Shining Armor, and he still doesn't seem to have any affect on policies. He married a princess, but he's still just a lowly guard captain.

There's been no obvious confirmation of it, I'd also wager the place is matriarchal but the truth is we just don't know very much about how it all works.

Of course she's dense, but the truth is she so rarely exhibits her own element that I've sort of stopped caring when she does. They all are dense as can be expected from looking at the target demographic but it isn't excessive, this sort of strays over that line.
