Theory that i saw on reddit, Dany says the dead are already here.

What if the undead have gotten into the crypts, or the night king is able to resurrect the skeletal remains of the dead starks and used them to attack from the rear?

Seem suspicious that the Night King isn't shown? Not even in the preview?

Probably not on foot, probably off somewhere with Viseryon. Or could be pulling something sneaky and they dont want to show it

I'm sure of it. I can't see where the story would go if it didn't.

I’m pretty sure that’s what the spiral symbol actually means. The Night King is the nexus point, you kill him you kill the dead army. My issue is more that, if they’re going the way I think they’re going, they’re gonna end the night king arc in the next two episodes, which is kind of a premature climax unless Cersei is gonna be an even bigger issue, but even then sucks cause it makes the Night King second fiddle

That is my biggest fear of this season, is that the night king will be done and dusted and then they go to finish off the lannisters and remove cersei from power. Which is why i dont like that this season is only 6 episodes, i wish this had a full 10 episode run, same with season 7.

Last season definitely felt rushed to me.

Well it’s bound to happen. We’re in the final act of stories that have been 9 years in the making. It feels rushed because they’re tying up loose ends. There’s little set up a ton of payoff. Waiting a year and half between seasons, and week between episodes compounds the issue, but if you watched the whole series beginning to end binge style I’d wager it would feel more on tempo.

Mrs mermania did that before this season and I watched a bit with her, we still both feel season 7 felt rushed and should have stretched out to 10 episodes.

this season so far the pacing feels better, but since there are only 4 (?) Episodes left I am afraid it is going to be rushed again.

If it's any comfort, the next 4 episodes are supposed to be around 80 minutes long.

Your man Nikolaj is one of the best actors in the show imo, he fucking nails the role, and even his facial expressions are gold.

It sure looks that way right now - Episodes 3 and 4 will be about defeating the NK and episodes 5 and 6 will be about defeating Cersei. However, the very fact that the chronological order is set out so obviously makes me think that there is some kind of twist involved - like, maybe the NK isnt actually at the gates of Winterfell (wasnt it odd that the last scene was just his lieutenants with no sight of Viserion) but en route to KL?

I too would find it rather disappointing if Cersei trumps the NK as the final villain.

If you think about it, it is actually a rather interesting parallel to Tolkien. After all, once Sauron (the Night King) is defeated, Frodo and company return home and have to deal with Saruman's (Cersei) mini-Mordor in the Shire, who is a much lesser threat.

That plotline was wisely left out of the movie version though. In this medium, dragging out the epilogue after the Big Bad goes down doesnt really work.

I'm aware, but it still sounds a bit shit. Enormous army, right in the middle of a battle, all just collapse suddenly? This whole war between life and death comes down to, probably, Aejon Snowgaryen winning a swordfight with the Night King? Bit shit.

Sure, but otoh...how else could one convincingly neutralize an undead horde in a fantasy setting? Hack down every last rotting, shambling zombie into tiny bits? Sounds stupid and undoable. Somehow make it so that they change course and wander back to where they came from? Magically make them human or at least peaceful again? Lame and double-lame.

Write it so that killing the Night King takes away his control of them and leaves them as just violent mindless zombies. Still dangerous, but not longer marching south to destroy the world of men. Team Alive wins, but Winterfell is lost. The North could be retaken eventually, but lol, here's Cersei to ruin fucking everything, gotta deal with her first.
