but I mean, even within canon, I think the Wildlings would be viewed by Southrons as a different race of people. I mean the term "race" is used pretty inexactly (its not even scientific as applied to humans) so... at one point for instance, the Irish were viewed as a separate "race" from the rest of Britain and so on...

I think you are missing that every character in this is severely flawed. No one does the right thing, on a consistent basis. They all operate with in their very narrow viewpoints. Tywin wanting to humiliate tyrion fucked shae. Tywin hating tryion set up having the trial pronounce Tyrion's death sentence.

The red wedding was a rational move. Until tyrion killed tywin, the Lannister's were going to win.

Tyrion is a lordling, the girl was a lowborn. If the girl had been some noble's daughter I doubt he would of cared, but Tyrion marrying a lowborn would have brought shame to the Lannister name.

Tywin has one goal, and that's the continuation of House Lannister. While House Lannister is much bigger in the books (plus House Lannister of Lannisport) in the show Tyrion is all that's left. Jaime is in the Kingsguard, thus no children and Cersei's children are Baratheons. Also Tywin had only joy in his life, and that was his wife with her dying in childbirth Tyrion is blamed for her death.

I never stated he had no negatives qualities. I was only defending some of the questionable things he had done. Tywin is very prideful and that led to a lot of downfalls.

I was saying that Tywin would of made a better King than all the others fighting for the Throne. He at least would have been a fantastic Hand/Regent following The Purple Wedding. It's just that nobody expects the chaotic force that is Varys.
