You're not the only one. Given the ignoble death of Bloodmoon after it apparently tanked hard with test audiences, if House of the Dragon falls apart as well D&D may turn out to have singlehandedly killed the Game of Thrones franchise with 6 episodes. Which is actually pretty impressive, in a morbid sort of way.

Season 8 killed any interest I had in re-watching the adaptation of a series I've loved for over twenty years, and also makes me disinclined to pick up the books again for an umpteenth re-read. I'm currently halfway through A Game of Thrones, Fire and Blood and the World of Ice and Fire all at once, with no real desire to progress all that much further in any of them. Compare that to, let's say, just before Season 7 finished, when I was still voraciously into all things ASOAIF.

Damn those two men. If it wasn't for the Green Ronin TTRPG I'd be completely done with the franchise.

It was really that bad eh?

:(

For me the biggest issues:
1. Episode 1-2 very very slow
2. Winterfell battle shot in near Total Darkness (no one unexpected died there)
3. Jaime and Cersei really should get an extra episode 100 percent focused on their relationship, maybe even with flash backs... and the final deaths should have been a big big focus (not just, one of many things that sort of happened at KL)
4. Tyrion needed to die because he kept making mistake after mistake stale after mistake

5. Danny as Mad Queen should have had 1 more episode to build up suspense (in fact, maybe it should be an entire new season... the games they could have played with her vs Sansa, Tyrion etc)

Its half the same freaking cast.

Edmure of riverrun is a main character, and half the Scots are the freakin north and wildlings.

Roose Bolton In real life?

https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/ ... 200620.htm

I can imagine when interviewed, John Bolton says: “Trump ignored my advice in foreign policy at every turn, if he’d been a trifle less arrogant.”

Maybe all Game of Thrones characters have IRL counterparts

You are literally saying this because his last name is Bolton.

Mad queen Danny was set up thematically Stannis was the evil tyrant who burnt innocents, but Davos and Shireen still loved him and the innocents he tortured were random people we never met. So I gave Stannis a pass until he burnt Shireen.

Likewise when Danny genocided House Tarly, it was obvious that she would genocide everybody else. Then, the only question was would D&D pull expected or unexpected out of their asses.

Extra seasons would be good if they were Seasons 1 to 6 quality. I guess they would be seasons 7 to 8 quality and we are better off without them.

So wikipedia says winds of winter will not be done till mid 2021. Quite honestly, I dont believe it. As I have stated before i think he is going to die before it's done.

Now if by some minor miracle it does come out next year, my question to the group, who is going to buy the book if it comes out next year?

Despite the bad ending in the show, I’m still a loyal ASOIAF supporter

I still believe in the vision :)

So do you think there's going to be GoT:Brotherhood version of TV-series once/if book-series is finished, or did ending of this adaption ruin the prospects.

Unlike a certain other fantasy writer,,,, GRRM's assistants already know the general story and have been ok'd to finish the series if he dies.

No, it wasn't. She didn't 'genocide' House Tarly. She executed 2 people who fought against her and refused to bend the knee after being defeated.

Dany operated on pretty much the same brutal medieval code as everyone else, including the good guys, it's just that around season 7 D&D decided that everyone else in Westeros suddenly developed modern liberal democratic views of warfare and conduct, and so were appalled at Dany's failure to abide by the Geneva Conventions.

Hey remember that time Ned Stark, paragon of virtue and honor, decapitated a 15 year old boy because he ran away from ice zombies instead of honoring his oath to the Night's Watch?

Hey remember that time Jon Snow hanged a 12 year old boy for being manipulated into mutiny because Jon told him that the psychotic assholes who murdered and ate his parents were their friends now?

Hey remember that time Tyrion used alchemical fire to slaughter an entire fleet of honorable men who were trying to depose his murderous, sadistic, incompetent, inbred and wholly illegitimate nephew? And then got mad when people didn't give him enough credit for it?

Hey remember that time Sansa fed a man alive to starving dogs?

Hey remember that time Arya butchered an entire family, baked them into pies, and fed them to their own father before cutting his throat?

If you don't, it's okay, D&D kind of forgot too.

If he does die though his assistants have the go ahead to finish the series, so, there's that.

Due to the Corona Crisis he obviously had to put his writing on lockdown. Or something.

He will be able to pick up his work once the vaccine is available however.

If they do the same job as the TV series I'd rather they leave the books unfinished.
