How the final episode should have gone:

Danolf Hitleryan gives her speech as normal over the ruined city, cheered on by her enablers, everything plays out normally with a bit more filler until the scene in the throne room.

She privately shows a little remorse, wondering aloud to Jon if she had gone too far, but refusing the consider changing her policy of continuing the war, so he kills her anyway

Drogon shows up, roasts and swallows the body whole, then fucks off into wherever, while Jon watches on in horrified fascination. He ignores the throne and Jon completely

Grey worm comes in and is all, 'dude where's the queen?' John shrugs comically, fade to black.

Fade back into 20 years later or so, Big Sam in archmeister robes is speaking to a room of children; 'And that's the story of the end of the Seven Kingdoms, or as I like to call it, A Song of Ice and Fire!'
An adorable childlet tugs on Big Sam's robe; 'but what happened to Jon and Tyrion and Arya and the rest??' the child demands
'Well that,' replies the big man, turning to directly face the camera with a smile and a wink, 'is a story for another time.'

I thought it was a beautiful idea.

One criticism though: When Jon shrugs comically, I suggest the Looney Tunes'-style shrinking circle to black accompanied with a humorous version of the theme. The scene should also integrate Wes Anderson symmetry.
Actually, scratch that, you can't have Wes Anderson symmetry in only one scene. Make the entire fucking episode Wes Anderson Symmetry.

Danny gives her speech to the troops.

Then she confronts Tyrion and has the troops grab and escort him away. She turns back to address the troops with more Hitler style rhetoric. Westeros will be cleansed with fire.

Jon suddenly walks behind her and rams a sword straight through her back.

All the troops below gasp in horror.

(q to dramatic Mhysa/mother of dragons theme)

Danny clutches at her wounds as she suddenly collapses, tumbled down a few stairs and dies with a very shocked look.

Jon turns and sees the captured Tyrion looking at him. Tyrion gives him a very firm nod of approval (acknowledging that he did the right thing).

Jon turns around to look at Grey Worm. Grey Worm very quickly runs Jon through with a spear through the chest.

Then the dragon carries Danny away.

...

Grey Worm, the Dothraki, and the unsullied attempt to leave the ruined city but are ambushed and attacked by a large force of northern, Tully , donnish, and vale troops outside. Lord Rhoyce, Brienne and Edmure Tully all participate in direct combat.

A smug Sansa watches from a safe distance on horseback.

The Unsullied and the Dothraki are completely annihilated. Grey Worm wounds Edmure (but doesn’t kill him) and makes a run for it. He runs into “Missandei” and is then stabbed through the throat. Before he dies, he sees Arya take off the face mask. “My name is Arya Stark... and that was for my brother Jon.”

After the fighting, Tyrion is freed from his cell.

...

At a gathering of the remaining lords, Tyrion makes a compelling speech about Sansa (using her shrewdness in seeing who the Mad Queen was, her relation to Aegon/Jon, and the trials and tribulations and her acquired wisdom over the seasons and how quickly she put together a coalition to defeat Grey Worm). rhoyce and Edmure put in a few good words.

Sansa then insists that Tyrion continues to be Hand of the King.

After very quickly closing some other arcs (Brienne writes in Jaime’s book and Arya goes west)
...

q to some extremely dramatic music as Sansa is crowned in the rebuilt KL throne room.

A combination of the northern theme and the S6 Cersei coronation theme

“long may she reign!”

the end

And after a little time to mull it over, the ending was a little happier than expected. But based on where they were in episode 5, i am still good with it and liked the episode.

Many of us feel the last two seasons were rushed, and as seasons I don’t think they as good as the first 5 or so, but as to how it wrapped up, I am good.

There's certainly not enough Northern or Tully troops left, and probably not enough Vale troops left either, to stand against the magically multiplying Unsullied and Dothraki. Dorne really doesn't seem to give a shit either way. Royce and Edmure are not skilled fighters, and it would be strange to suddenly throw them into that role. How the fuck would Arya manage to get hold of Missandei's face? How would Tyrion know what Sansa had done when he was in a cell? Sansa, I think, would far rather rule the North than stay in King's Landing. How would the throne room be rebuilt in any less than about a decade, after the damage it sustained?

A far more reasonable ending would involve Tyrion's utterly retarded suggestion of elective monarchy failing, the North declaring independence, the Iron Islands declaring independence (it was promised to Yara by Dany, after all), Dorne declaring independence, the Reach under Bronn collapsing into chaos because Bronn has no idea how to be a proper lord, the Stormlands suffering much the same fate under Gendry, and everywhere else starving because there's no food coming from the Reach any more.

And then Bran becomes the Night King and kills everyone.

re film episode 6 to make Danny’s army look smaller at the rally. Or you could have Drogon go beserk after her mother is killed and burn off a large section of Danny’s confused army before flying off with the corpse.

The Riverlands Deus Ex can be retroactively justified. “Oh Edmure was still putting his army together and consolidating the post Frey situation during the Long Night... but now it’s ready and decisive enough to beat the Unsullied”

Tyrion could have heard it all (about Sansa) from Varys.

Arya getting Missandei’s face is a tiny tiny plot hole. She could have stolen it from the corpse or else used her super art skills to copy. The point being, she needs to do SOMETHING with her face powers and thus kill would be shocking enough (and really cold).

Plus the episode would be repaced so you have 2/3 of it in KL (with Danny’s betrayal and the final surprise battle vs the Unsullied/Dothraki) with 1/3 left to close it off.

this is controversial but I would also have squeezed episode 1 and 2 together into just 1 episode.

And have the Long Night at episode 2 (with better lighting), it would be more like Blackwater in terms of feel

Episode 3 would be changed to mostly KL ep to explore Cersei’s rule, state of mind, conflicts over Jaime etc. the episode would also focus on Jaime’s conflict...

Episode 4 and 5 would largely remain as is

Except Euron doesn’t fight Jaime, he simply dies in the explosion and I want a more dragged out and more high budget remake of the Lannister Twins final moments

This is all assuming it has to stay a 6 episode gig

The Night King battle was extremely painful to watch.

The tactics were HORRIBLE. LIKE REALLY. REALLY. HORRIBLE!

It's the most unbearable battle I had ever seen on modern media. Ever. It makes Scipio scream in his grave all the way from Earth, Sun Tzu grab his Art of War and throw it at Daenerys' ghost... I swear.

The Finale was even more stupid. Seriously, the characters we all grew to know and love were trashed. Big time.

Oh brother, I don't know about this one.
Daenerys & Aegon Targaryen deserved a better ending. Do not argue with me on this.

“long may she reign!”

the end

The actual finale was better than this.

Bran in no way deserved to be king. No one (at all pretty much) was rooting for him. He’s the absolute worst choice as far as a satisfactory ruler and it carries no punch. At least with Sansa or even Cersei somehow on the throne, you have a love it or hate it split. Bran was literally the worst.

Basically, the worst option as far as writing goes (even worse then putting an unpopular/hated/controversial character on the throne) is to put a completely bland character on it

I didn’t buy the whole Grey Worm “oh my Queen is dead? Let’s leave Westeros now” thing

There should be a reckoning and he too should pay for his choices

Oh and also in my version, Bronn would not get High Garden

And then Bran becomes the Night King and kills everyone.

with the flaws of all of these endings (I mean, Sansa on the throne wouldn’t be very secure and Tyrion’s strange suggestion basically leaves a future round of Game of Thrones to be played when elections roll around... or maybe Bran would get rid of it before the time... also, Bran on the throne feels so... Flat

Maybe the ideal literary ending is for Danny to stay Queen and every hero in the story pays a fatal price for believing in her and her narrative. After they are all killed, the closing shot is her sitting in the Iron Thtone with a crown. Tyrion does try to get Jon to kill Danny but he is blinded by loyalty, love and honour. Paralyzed by it, he is later himself killed.

And a concluding monologue (while Drogon flies over her throne) about how her wars of liberation have just begun.

In some ways it would be better. I mean, at least you would feel something. I never supported her but it’s still, in a literary sense, a better ending with more to say.

I don’t know about the books but that’s in my view, probably how you could best end the show.

It would be more tragic then bittersweet but based on what we’ve seen and the show’s tone, it would work.

It also opens up a dialogue about the nature of revolutions/liberation and populism. It would be a very Love it or Hate it ending. It would have far more to say about how things play out historically and in contemporary politics.

it also makes sense that Tyrion and Jon would die. They’ve both made far more mistakes. Plus they ultimately put their faith in the wrong party to thematically it would work.

The whole point is the Bran was chosen to be king because he'll be a good king. It's not about what he deserves, it's about what the realm deserves.

Why? Kinda been a running theme of the show that there is no justice.

Any ideas what anyone wants the poll to be about now? I imagine this thread will end up dying off now probably for good in the coming weeks. So i can do something kind of serious like what everyone's favourite season was or something silly like, what did Podrick do/for to those girls?

Not really related to GoT per se, but in the context of the upcoming new Terminator movie I just found out that, amusingly, both Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Stormborn have played the character of Sarah Connor.
O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.
